i know that alot of 'functional strength training gurus' recommend various esoteric exercises instead (as better alternatives to) of squats and deadlifts (they need to make up shit to make money). which is completely retarded. squats and deadlift (variations) are the best functional strength exercises by far. (for the lower body)
let me add: singel leg work is def good for functional strength (and sports training). but if you have to chose between squats or singel leg exercises like bulgarian split squats, reg split squats or pistol squats etc....reg squats are the best by far. (squats and deadlifts)
I have to make clear when I talk about training, especially like on these types of threads, I speak from an athletic standpoint. that being said. I disagree with this statement. Not everyone is able to a squat or deadlift at one point or another so there HAS to be other alternatives to create power and stimulate the CNS, thats why I chose the 1 arm DB snatch and medicine ball complex.
Now a days, NO athlete is trained on a sagittal plane only, they are trained on all four planes creating equal strength in all four planes. In a nutshell that what "functional" training is. I understand there's alot BS that goes along with that and there are trainers out there making a good thing bad with all of their bullshit exercises. But the fact is it makes too much sense to NOT include some functional movements in a power routein, bodybuilding routein or whatever.
Jason, I read your post. But when I said I haven't seen a sound routein on any board on here.......I will take that back and just add I haven't seen yours. But seeing who you train with and who you mentor after, I'm sure it's a sound routein for what you do. But the routeins that I have seen on here are missing alot of components that should be included but isn't. Again, all I see is sagittal plane movements and very little of anything else exept for maybe lateral movements for delts.
