Hehe. That's what nudists used to euphemistically call themselves.  ;)

My training partner and I have a running joke about this.  When we are working out one of us will say "Am I a bodybuilder yet" kind of funny because it's hard to say what exactly makes one a bodybuilder.

In the words of the great thinker, Ronnie Coleman;

'' Everyone wants to be a 'bodybuilder' but no one wants to live those heavy assed weights''.

You fail Coleman.  This so-called profession of bodybuilding is the most ridiculed and reviled occupation on the planet!

I agree, i love fitness and weight training as a hobby, but im not delusional enough to poke needles in me to be like Coleman, i would not want to aspire to be anything like him.

Im happy that he and a handful of guys can live off posing, im happy for Tony Doherty that he promotes it well and professionally.

Its not for everybody, just like acting, L.A has 99% unemployed actors, though alot of them are delusional too, bodybuilding is imo based on luck and genetics, if you lack either ur screwed, no matter how hard you work in the gym or how much u lift.
My lil cousin is slowly learning now, i had a talk to him bout his future and hopefully i struck a cord with him, he kept saying "yeah, yes, i know" his 20 he has time to change.

He wants to be a personal trainer and use that as a gate to the IFBB, i just hope he does not get devastated if it dont work out, so i hope his doing PT for himself too and not just a stepping stone to the IFBB.

Referring to yourself as a 'bodybuilder' is a term that does not help to endear yourself to others!

The word 'bodybuilder' must be struck from the modern paradigm vernacular.  Serves only a destructive purpose!

I am a competitive bodybuilder and a professional at work and my bodybuilding has opened many doors for me.  People I work around see that it takes discipline, dedication and desire to achieve a certain look and they are happy when I apply those same work ethics to my job.  Bodybuilding has been good to me.  I look and feel good and I have a double sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. Not only and I physically healthier I also am more alert and sharp at work.  Hank you seem like a jaded man upset with the world.  You should focus more on your training and not everyone else if you do this you might find yourself a lot happier.  All your treads and comments are about other people and how they are not living up to your expectations.  People really don't care what you think or feel and once you realize this you will become a better person.  Your life should be about you not what you want others to be , think, or feel.

I want a 'clean' industry!  I want an end to the corruption and the pornography.

This so-called profession is built on lies.....  Lies, lies, lies!

I have had a gutful of these bloated Neanderthals lecturing naive adolescents on the virtues of living and training 'clean'.

I am fed up with these so-called supplement companies peddling their worthless products.

People are being exploited and manipulated by this sham. I want an end to this rubbish!

Thats sucks, but it keeps the business going and it employs people and so its all good..is it worthless or just expensive?? i believe supplements are garbage, and only 16-18 yr olds and delusional 30yr old believe supps are everything.

Like any industry there a some scumbags and there top notch class acts (T.D) and many others..i also got to say the friendliest people i have met are bodybuilders, I dont believe they all are Neanderthals, but im sure there are a few.

Dang, really???

Actually, I think the favorite euphemism for nudists is "naturist."  Although "physical culturist" sounds kind of sleazy, too.  Wasn't "Physical Culture" one of of those "art" magazines back when it was illegal to send pornography through the mail?

I don't call myself anything as I don't particularly like calling myself a "bodybuilder" due to all the negative stereotypes it brings up with the general public. The only time I refer to myself as a bodybuilder is around other bodybuilders. I hate when my wife tells people I'm a bodybuilder - gets on my nerves because it means people will then have prejudged me before they get to know me properly.

when people hear the word "bodybuilder" they think arnold

Maybe half the time, but the other half they are likely thinking 'Oh, those big, scary dudes with all those veins? Ewwww.'

If you train to build your body from one thing to another, then you are a BBer. If you compete, you're a competitive BBer. End of story.
