It's not as if regular game announcers are so good in this day and age. They're generally banal to mediocre, so i have to laugh when they're used as examples of excellence.
Al Michaels for example, routinely takes a second or two to tell you what you've already seen, he's slow to react and quite frankly quite nasal-extremely overhyped and not that good.
Generally speaking, in the history of NFL TV the best announcers who tell it like it is don't last long. The NFL and the networks don't want that depth of the reality.
