Kongo joins Rampage at team Wolfslair
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:08:17 PM »
Hot on the heels of training partner Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo has joined the ranks of Team Wolfslair.

Wolfslair co-owner Anthony McGann told Eurosport’s Alex Sharratt that, like Jackson, Kongo has signed on with Wolfslair for training and management, quickly making it the premier team in the U.K.

"(Quinton’s) old management weren't on great terms with the UFC, but we are very UFC-friendly here and have a lot of time for (UFC president) Dana White so we stepped in,” McGann told Eurosport.

"It was the same with Cheick. He was having some problems negotiating his new contract with the UFC and was looking for somewhere to train so it was an easy decision for him to join his mates."

McGann confirmed that Kongo had been close to a deal to fight Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 on Nov. 15, but that fight fell apart when UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture agreed to return to the Octagon. He will fight Lesnar instead of Kongo.

No word yet on whom Kongo’s next opponent will be or when he will fight. For now, he will join Jackson and the rest of Wolfslair to help Michael Bisping prepare for his main event battle with Chris Leben at UFC 89.
