ND, don't hijack my thread, this isnt about anyone's calves.  its about the fact that dexter is not Mr. O material.  If you're going to be a "small but quality" guy, you gotta bring the quality. His arms are big, but not cut (look at his front DB, the most telling pose).  He has a reverse taper when he does the FDB. He has no quad cuts, he has a weak back (he got owned especially by heath in the back poses), he is narrow.  I just don't see him as the small guy who deserves to topple the giants.

I didn't hijack your thread the point stands if other got away without calves so should he , you think his back is weak? I disagree and he's not that small , small compared to Jay and Wolf but he's 5'6" and competes upwards of 20-25 pounds heavier than Ray at the same height or so he has his flaws as do they all but I think he looked better than Jay he's another transitional Olympia Victor will replace him in 09 if he's on the money

Ray looked bigger (maybe not as heavily muscled), posed better, had better conditioning, lines, symmetry and would destroy dexter in every pose.  surely you can't disagree.

I think he would beat Dex but not in every pose ! the 90s are gone thats for sure

If calves like forearms were muscles that could be developed then you would have an argument to make...unfortunately calves can not be developed much more than what their natural size dictates....maybe with HARD AND PERSISTENT work you may eek out an extra inch or two. If a BB has big calves he had big calves even when he did not lift weights. As a matter of fact the people who have the biggest calves in my experience DON'T EVEN WORK OUT!!!!! Just genetics...Same with forearms... But if you know some exercise that will allow anyone to have calves/forearms to the size they desire then please enlighten us all....

There are some pics of dex from 97 or 98 when his calves are pretty oiled up.  You don't see that on him anymore.

Dexter is good but he kind of accidently won the Olympia title. Jay showed up WAY off, and Victor was out.

Not ridiculous per se...but with the 'decision' made not allow Jay to three-peat - and while I like the direction that Dexter's win indicates - I would have given it to Heath as well. Sure Dex has paid his 'dues', but I kinda like the champ to have calves. I can deal with the 'his arms are too big' stuff.
