I was talking to my friend in Norway today.  he pays 2% higher in taxes than someone making the same amount as him in the states.  he has, Free Health care, can go to any university he wants for free, gets a computer and a TV from the Fed Gov.  would you pay a extra 2% for free healthcare and free college?

Sorry, Busted, but I don't share your faith in our government. After what they've done to public schools and social security I'm not sure I want them in charge of my health care or our universities. I also don't want to go back to a medical system (like the one I had to use in the military) where I had to wait 30 days to get an appointment.

Have you validated the tax numbers? Are you sure it's 2 percent?

No they will.  And they will also find more ways to circumvent the tax code.  Another reason why actually lowering taxes increased revenues during the Reagan years.

Best post I've seen in a while.  This is exactly why more gov't is a tragedy for this country.  Nationalized HC systems create low quality care, recklessly long lines and waiting lists, and poor service in general.

Very possibly.  I agree with Moore's point that the insurance and pharmaceudical industries have lobied hard to cement their position, and saying that socialized health care means low quality care is a baseless sales pitch.  It's hard to imagine things being any worse than they are now.

I like the insurance I have now. I can see a doctor the same day vs. the week to 30 day wait I had to endure in the Navy.

If I need surgery it happens quickly - not weeks or months later.

And I can tell you with absolute certainty that I would rather receive medical care for a life threatening medical condition in the United States than in Castro's Cuba.

I've had medical care ranging from great to fucking butt woeful in the Navy.

When I could actually get into Bethesda Medical Center it was great otherwise I had to wait.

Outside of the DC area it sucked ass.
