California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced plans to charge sales tax to pet owners for their veterinary services. Sign the petition to stop the tax.
Hawaii, New Mexico, and South Dakota are the only states that tax veterinary medical services, including routine exams and vaccinations, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s state tax summary report.
Pet owners faced with tough economic times may be forced to forego medical treatment for their pets. Experts believe additional pet costs will result in more pets being relinquished to shelters and more dogs and cats being euthanized.
Taxing pet owners for basic pet medical care is a very bad idea. Governor Schwarzenegger proposes to tax pet owners but has refused to tax movie tickets. We think taxing movie tickets would be a better idea than taxing pet owners.
