Hero Dog's Dramatic Taped Rescue
Becomes Worldwide Sensation

He is a hero, caught on tape and captivating the attention of a nation and now the world.

He's also homeless and unknown and could easily find a loving place with a host of families now willing to take him in if he'd just come forward.

"He" is a dog, but not just any four legged creature. He's an amazing stray whose act of compassion was caught on grainy traffic cameras and has now created a YouTube sensation.

His selfless act of heroism was spotted on a busy Santiago highway when another canine was unfortunately hit by a speeding car. The dying dog lay in the middle of the road as vehicles zoomed by it, threatening to inflict even more carnage.

And then, from out of nowhere, another animal is seen navigating between the zooming automobiles and straight into the path of the same danger. He gingerly crosses the road and races to the spot where the canine fell. He's then seen opening his mouth and physically dragging his fellow pooch out of the area onto the median strip and away from traffic.

Highways crews, who watched the drama unfold, raced to the scene, removing both the dead animal and its rescuer. But the hero somehow got away from them and ran off, disappearing as quickly as he came.

When footage of the December 4th incident hit TV screens in the country, the phones at the highway department lit up with people offering to take in the homeless hound. But officials were forced to explain they have no idea where the dog is now or how to find it.

The shots of the powerful pup in mid rescue have since turned up on file sharing sites including YouTube and have been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, stunned at an act of bravery that seems almost beyond belief.
