I have paid about 150K for health insurance for me and staff after 15 yrs of practice.
My total medical bills exceed 500K
...so of the "supposedly" 500k in medical bills, at least 100k goes to support the 20% of Americans with no coverage (doctors and hospitals don't just eat those bills). That brings us down to 400k.
Secondly, it is well established (by several studies) that Europeans pay a lot less than Americans for THE EXACT SAME CARE... so using France as an example (they have the best healthcare system in the world), then the 400k figure has to be reduced by approx 40% to allow for the tremendous amount of waste and price-gouging in the American system. The French healthcare system costs approx 60% of what Americans pay per person.
Reducing it by 40% brings us down to 240k.
But we forgot that the French system is inclusive, whereas 20% of Americans aren't covered.
So if the French are paying 60% of what Americans pay, yet the French are inclusively covered... then we should reassess that 60% factor. So we should reduce the 240k by a further 25% (the full cost of the American system is paid for by only 80% of the populace).
That brings the 240k down to 180k.
From this 180k of true "medical bills" we should also delete the percentage by which the American taxpayer underwrites the cost of private medical care in the US... from memory I believe this figure is somewhere in the region of 20%.
That brings our 180k down to 144k... the TRUE cost of those 500k in medical bills.
Now let's look at the 150k you claim to have paid in medical coverage...
You forgot to include the taxes you pay that contribute to underwriting private healthcare, you also forgot to include the cost to your previous employers, you also forgot to include the cost of treatment-versus-cure incentives built into private healthcare systems, you also forgot to include the fact that you haven't finished paying coverage... your cost of your coverage will continue to increase year by year till you can no longer afford it... then you will be just another chronically sick no-coverage casualty of the healthcare for profit cartel model.
Congratulations.
Keep voting Palin.
