Is it morally wrong to lie to children about SANTA CLAUS?

I always thought that kids were never really ready for the lie that is Santa Claus...Esp/when its the only people in the world you are to trust in the parents who tell such a thing...

This is an interesting issue, TechnoViking. I was thinking about this Christmas Eve...

Is it morally wrong to lie to children about Santa Claus?

I can argue both sides. It's obviously wrong if you're Christian, which is a religion that says to lie is a sin yet Christmas is based on a lie, which is Santa Claus. 

On the other hand, I can argue that it's right if I believe it causes more good than bad. For instance, Santa facilitates the imagination of children and makes the holiday very exciting for them... If the benefit of this outweighs the cost of them eventually realizing it's a lie, it's a good thing.

Either way, a Christian who lies to thier children about Santa is a hypocrite and the Christmas holiday is contradictory to the religion it is based on. Christianity says lieing is a sin yet Christmas is a Christian holiday that is based on a lie (Santa Claus).

What is your opinion on the issue?

I think it's causing permanent affects from a very early age that people are unaware of.

For one, distrust of adults and of others. You could argue this is good, however. Too much trust is obviously dangerous, narrows the mind, etc.... Perhaps it's good that we realize people can be very full of shit early on so that we open our minds to possiblilities other than their claims? Hmmm.......

Maybe without Santa, without the lie that becomes so apparently a lie, kids wouldn't realize at such an early age that adults can tell you untrue things... maybe this promotes critical thinking, open-mindedness, etc....

On the flip side, it may close the mind off from possibilities in general.  For instance, kids may generalize, losing trust on such a mass scale they don't trust any possibilities and therefore don't consider them.... I think this is more likely the affect that the lie has on children (people).

Its also interesting that the White Christian man killed off all the Mayan's including almost all their artifacts in the name of Christianity and even went so far as to call the mayan's devil worshipers... I'm sorry if I missed it, but I do not see where you stated whether or not we should lie to children about Santa Claus?

Judging from your perspective I would bet you don't think we should lie to them because it would not be truly Christian to do so, but I'd like to confirm this(?).

Absolutely not. There's nothing wrong with buying gifts for your children at this time of year but Christians have duty to explain to our children about Christ. They are never too young to hear the truth. Santa is a myth created by the most sinister people on the planet. A fabricated pack of lies surround us in our daily lives. These evil people are using it as a system of indoctrination for what is to come. I have personally convinced the hardest of sceptics. They no longer laugh about the subject. Many reading this thread will call me a Bible thumper etc. Know this; our earth is under the control of satanists. I challenge anyone laughing at this to use logic, research it for a few hours and come back and post. If you are still unable to find any facts, your lobotomy is pretty much complete. Do not be afraid to ask for guidance in your research.

1. Coaxing children to believe in things that do not exist harms their faculty for critical thinking and makes them more prone to believe in B.S. when they are older.

2. Children can get just as much joy from Christmas without believing in fairy tales. Most children stop believing in Santa Claus at a very young age, but put on the act for their parents sake. This in itself is bad because the children have the burden on their shoulders.

3. Not all children in the world have the privileged of getting tons of toys on Christmas day. Imagine how young children of poor parents must feel when they hear of their classmates getting tons of toys for Christmas, while they received only a few toys or no toys at all. They imagine that they are bad children, or somehow undeserving of toys from Santa Claus. This is very damaging for children.

4. Tons of toys at Christmas never benefited kids anyway. A few toys can help children, but lavishing them with toys supposedly from Santa gives children a false sense of entitlement.


There are more reasons, but it's easy to see how simply avoiding the fairy tale of Santa Claus can help kids all over.
