No, Auckland, which is in the North Island. It's the only place where things are happening in NZ, although it's pretty laid back compared to cities like Sydney, London and NY. And you?

i have an uncle who lived in new zealand for 15 years, don't remember which island though

this was before the internets so as kids it was a trill to get letters from a guy who lived in the future on the other side of the planet
