dexter looks excellent in that shot - but in the same way somebody like ronny rockel looks excellent - so why arent guys like that placing higher if this is the standard by what the O is judged? Just doesnt make sense

of course dex. doesn't look bad beside the others but his body doesn't have the ability to own the competition from the first glance like lee haney or dorian (in 93 & 95)..

First of all, Jackson doesn't have to "own" anyone. He simply has to beat them, which he did last September.

Second, few (if any) Olympia champions "owned" the competition in their first win. Arnold won by one point; Ronnie won by just 3 points.

Yes, Jackson deat beat everyone, but that's not the point.  The point is that it's sad that bodybuilding has gotten to the point where that physique CAN beat everyone in the O lineup  :-\

And as far as "owning" the competition...screw the damn points, BOTH Dorian and Ronnie took the O to a new level with their first win.

Sorry, but both Jay and Dexter will go down in history as "fillers" in between greatness...

yeah that's a horrible comparison!

The first pic of Flex I think he took like 4th that year, looked like crap...

and that second pic of him HE WASN'T EVEN A PRO YET...but I still take his back double bi over Dexter's  ;D

There's nothing sad about it. Dexter Jackson had the best combination of size, proportion, shape, and definition. Jay Cutler tends to be blocky and needs to be on the money, in order to win. He wasn't that night; so he lost.

And as far as "owning" the competition...screw the damn points, BOTH Dorian and Ronnie took the O to a new level with their first win.

Hardly!!! Ronnie won by the skin of his teeth and was beaten by Kevin Levrone, earlier that year. And Dorian looked virtually the same in '92 as he did in '91, when he placed second to Lee Haney.

Either way, there was no "owning" of the competition for their initial wins.

Sorry, but both Jay and Dexter will go down in history as "fillers" in between greatness...

Jay Cutler is the man who put an end to Ronnie Coleman's "greatness". As for history, there's still plenty of that to be written. Cutler may become the first man to regain the Olympia title, after losing it onstage. Who knows how many more Olympias Jackson will win. If Zane can win three, Jackson certainly can, too.

Okay, I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion then.

But I HOPE we can both agree that Dorian and Ronnie both brought something new to the Olympia stage, something never seen before, right? Wether it was their first win or not?

So my point is, both Jay and Dex fail in that area, they have not, and will not bring anything new to the O stage.

That remains to be seen, simply because they are the two most recent winners. Bodybuilding champions are like music: Every generation think that the stuff from their era was the best EVER and that the current crop is relative garbage.

All of the criticism that you're hurling at Cutler and Jackson was, at one time, said about Yates and Coleman.

Read a magazine from the 80s and you'll find some old-timer, blasting those physiques while praising those of the previous decades. Same goes for the 90s. The same guys you're applauding now were getting shredded to bits by some editorials, preferring the 80s physiques.

And, the cycle continues.

Okay.  Personally, I think we've seen the best of Cutler and Dex.

But, I guess we'll see.  ;)

Father Time put an end to Coleman's greatness. Jay just happened to be around at the time.

There will be off years in the Olympia, it's happened before. Dexter's better than some of the winners in previous eras; he was deserving.

Wheeler i'd say was more compelling, but between the competition then and politics he couldn't win.

What's interesting is that this is news to you; it goes in cycles. Some years and competitors will always be better than others.

How does "Father Time" do all of that in just one year?
