It's hard to defend her, but no one should do that to a kid. She may deserve it but there is no excuse for that type of reaction. Some discretion should have been used.

Not condoning what the cop did, but it's probably the best thing that could have happened to her. She'll probably sue and get a decent settlement, media exposure, a free pass on the crime, sympathy etc..

In watching the video, it appears he strikes her in the back of the shoulder in order to cuff her. When a person is resisting police are trained to hit the joint or nerve area to weaken the resistance. If thats the case, things are completely different. If he was striking her in the back of the head (which is not probably after seeing the video) then it is clearly unacceptible.
Looks like the officer was overly aggressive but its not as bad as it looks because of the above information. Mouthy combative people like this get delt with physically. What happened to Rodney King was completely unacceptible, this case is nothing like that. I think this officer needs to be reprimanded but nothing else. If there is a prior record of over aggression then more. The girl was resisting, provoked the incident and likely would have fought the officer more if she could, he prevented any escalation by his aggressive tactics. If he used gentler tactics it probably would have just given her more opportunity to fight.
We have to punish (and remove) police officers who beat citizens but give them some leeway in physical situations where there is a combative person. Lots of tees have no respect for authority these days.

Funny how that works out, but it's true. It will catch up in one way or another. Those same rules apply when in the service also. You will get dealt with one way or another eventually.

showed no discipline in the face of stupidity at all. there are cops out there who would have said "that's fine..now kick off the other one" then just slammed the door in her face and tried to bury her within the system or something to make it understood.....instead he chose to take the lower road.

Look at the video again.. SHE WAS ALREADY IN A FUCCKING HOLDING CELL. There was no reason to "cuff her" at all. All the meathead had to do was close the door and lock it. He went in for the purpose of exacting revenge for the shoe kick, period.
