athlete=a person that is involved in a sport which requires strength, agility, stamina.bodybuilding requires a ton of drugs with good genetics and performing repetition exercises that benefit thier musculer appearence on stage, they are not judged on how much weight they lift.so (strength) is ruled out.(agility),im sure some have agility but most bodybuilders ive seen dont look very agile,(stamina),im not even gonna comment on that one, lol.im just keepin it real,i like bodybuilding as much as the next guy but i dont know how on earth bodybuilding got labeled as a sport.theres a reason why bodybuilding aint in the olympics, cause its not a sport is a fashion show except the guys are showing thier bodies instead of clothes
And:
Why won't you listen to what our dear friend Wikipedia has to say:
"A beauty contest, or beauty pageant, is a competition based mainly, though not always entirely, on the physical beauty of its contestants, and often incorporating personality, talent demonstration, and question responses as judged criteria. Almost invariably, competitions for men and women are separate events, and those for men are not referred to as beauty contests. Beauty contests for women are more common, and winners are called beauty queens. Beauty contests for men, like Mr. Universe, are more likely to be "body building" contests—quite unlike the traditional "beauty contest" in which women are judged upon many attributes both physical and otherwise. However, in the 1990s, male "beauty contests" began to shift focus. Instead of only considering muscle mass, the competitions began to judge the natural physical attributes of the contestants as well as their physiques. These include Mr. World and Manhunt International."
OK, forget what I said before. Upon more reflection and arguments presented bodybuilding is a physique contest not an athletic event. I think I conflated the notion that since bodybuilders are strong and many are very athletic (Kai Green, grapefruit not withstanding) there is the tendency to think of them as athletes. Being athletic does not make you an athlete. Participation in a sport seems to be one of the requirements for being an athlete. Posing onstage does seem to have more in common with a beauty pagent than an athletic or sporting event.
