He's right. You're attacking extremism by being an extremist. (No, not the kind of extremist who advocates killing, etc.) We've had a discussion like this before. Remember when you said everyone who voted for McCain was stupid? You combat extremism with reasonableness, not with the same kind of actions or overstatements you're trying to discredit.
Did I say that about Bush voters? Sometimes I surprise myself. Talk about unconscious, man, you couldn't get more bold and accurate than that! Could you find the exact quote? That doesn't sound like me. This does:
Palin is an uapologetic simpleton. She's a fool with a pretty face.
In the latest excerpt released from Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin, Katie asked Sarah what magazines she reads to inform her world view. Sarah's initial response was, "I've read most of them..."
Katie then asked Sarah to name a specific title. To which Sarah responded...

Um, all of them...
She should be forever ostracized for that stupidity. Instead, the dullards out their seem to think this chick has moxy.
Ignorance is only ignorance. Her clumsy attempt at glibness perfectly illustrates the lack of brains behind the comely facade.

I see you're making the same error some other guy did. You state that:
You combat extremism with reasonableness, not with the same kind of actions or overstatements you're trying to discredit.
Is it not reasonable to call a rightwing spade a spade? Reason is tool. Even these rightwing hucksters have an obvious method to their madness. Pointing out that these creeps have an effect on already unbalanced people is not controversial.
I'll stick to fighting the good fight by pointing out the obvious to those who cannot or will not see.
That is my gift. ...and my curse.
