we are all talking about skull crushers and not close grip bench presses.  trust me, i think most of us on here know the difference.

135 is not that much weight for skull crushers.  265 is, but manofsteel is huge, so i dont doubt it.  whether he uses strict form or not is irregardless.  if he could do 265 with sloppy form and 225 with strict form, either way, it is a lot of weight and very impressive..

So how much can you do?

i used to use 135.  i havent been doing a routine that i use that exercise in quite a while.  im doing a 3 day per week full body routine and i use dips for my tricep exercise.

when i used to do an arm day, i would use 265 for 6-8 reps on close grip bench press though...

BTW, when i did skull crushers i usually did them slightly different from most. i would tilt my elbows at a 45 degree angle behind my head and lean my head off the bench slightly.  this way, at the top of the movement, your not just supporting the weight with your joints, but are still having to flex to keep it there.

So how much can you bench?

Hey it's an honest question.  If 135 is so easy when it comes to skull crushers and SH can do 265 with poor form or close grip bench presses or whatever I'm assuming his bench is close to 400lbs.

Yes

So then you should easily be able to bench over 500lbs.  What do you bench?

I've put up 485lbs on a bench for 3 reps....that's my best.  For single I'd GUESS 500.  At my best my arm strength outshined everthing else....except for calves and some rowing movements.

Your ability to skull crush 265lbs seems way out of proportion for you ability to bench.

Wouldn't your elbow joints get wrecked by that weight regardless of strength? ???

When i was close gripping 265, i was using 285 for 6-8 reps on bench press.  My triceps and shoulders seem to do most of the work on my bench, and i think thats part of why my chest seems to be a lagging body part for me.

my brother benches in the 400's though if that helps.

I have plateaued at 10,000....any way to work past it? ???

135 isnt very impressive imo, well above average but not impressive...this dude i used to work was a track athlete for a college here in Tx and he did some weird exercise where he would lower the weight like a skull crusher and then move the weight to his chest and press it like a close grip and did this with 315 for like 10 or so reps when i first saw him do it i was like he is gonna bust his face open with that much weight but he didnt even use a spotter...crazy genetics on this dude ehhh maybe some extra help too iono

Actually that's only 135 and SK'ers are partial reps only. Seen a few 300+ in that tricep exercise. Most guy's prefer an EZ bar.

Seen one arm BB curls with an Olympic bar. Hit's a lot of supporting muscles around and under the biceps. As well as the forearms. Different slant on bicep work. Of course the  one arm side press ( your bending away and down as the bar is pressed up) with an Olympic bar allows a lot of weight to be used. And in a way (for me anyway) easier to handle that a DB.

Huh?  I didn't say anything to you.

You sound like you're so worked up over how you've NEVER seen anyone do the skull crushers with the Olympic bar.

OK. We get it. You've never seen it before. Let it go!
