It has nothing to do with productivity, or pension and health benefits, or union salaries. All carmakers are unionized
What it has to do with is the fact that GM makes a shitty product nobody wants to buy.
If they produced vehicles consumers wanted to buy, they wouldn't have the financial problems they currently do.

The reason they dont want them is because they are too expensive for what the customer is getting.

In other words... they provide a shitty product with NO VALUE to the consumer?   ::)

GM has to charge those prices since their cost structure is so high.  What dont you get about that ????

GM has more retirees than workers for fucks sake.

What GM has to do is to produce a product that has VALUE to the end consumer.
That will solve their financial problems, ...but no, ...you advocate ridiculous prices to a consumer with choice? ???

Good grief, you sound almost Communist.  :o  At least under communism, people have no consumer choice.

GM should be allowed to go out of business.  I for one, will never buy a gm car.  They plan to import cars from china using us tax dollars????

No thanks.

Look 333386, every conceivable effort to make pure free market capitalism a reality has failed MISSERABLY. Take Chile for example, where Pinochet privatized anything that wasn't his, or Argentina, which followed suit convinced by Milton Friedman himself. Now Iraq. Free market sucks, and is in no way the answer. The main reason it fails ALL THE TIME is that it fails in 1) prevents discriminate profit-making and 2) forces corporations into paying taxes.

My point of view is that there ISN'T a perfect system, one that makes everyone happy, so, at the very least, let's try something else: Make the workers the ones in charge of the decision-making in every company.

Yes, that never worked in the USSR because worker-owned systems of production were never in place in the USSR. In fact workers were told what to produce when and how much in the same way we are. The only difference is that the USSR had a far more developed welfare system than we do.
