One needs to look at the interests of ALL the athletes...and giving special invitesfor no good reason aint going to sit too well with any of the rest of them that are trying to qualify by placing at a Pro show...

NO invites are given for sponsor consideration...PERIOD.

This has nothing to do with Ed, or Ultimate Nutrition...it has to do with a system we have in place

Let me explain how it's done properly Chick:

1 ) Provide the link to the IFBB Pro Rules document

     http://www.ifbbprofessionalleague.com/IFBBProRules.pdf

2 ) Print out the relevant section

    2.2 Invitation:
At all Pro League competitions, except for the Olympia competitions where the
Athlete must qualify to enter, the Promoter has the right to select those Pro
League Athletes he or she wishes to invite and to pay expenses for.

3 ) Let the people know you think Ed van Amsterdam is a great rolemodel and father and wish him well in future IFBB competitions

You're not explaining anything because under Rule 4.5 section 3 it says.

"3. The Promoter of the Mr. Olympia has the right to nominate one competitor,
as a “special invitee”, who has not qualified for the current year’s
Mr. Olympia competition. This competitor may compete only with the
approval of the Pro League."

So there is a rule in place which allows it. That's how Gunther compete in the 2002 Olympia.

But Chick has pointed out that Ed will not be the recipient of a special invite so either the promoter has not asked for one or the Pro League has denied it.

No, he will not be granted a special invite. If he's going, he will have to qualify like everyone else

translation:  he's going to be gifted a 3rd place finish at some 2nd-tier qualifying show on Manion's orders.

Thanks for the 411, Bob!  :D

Dear Mr. Photo

I'm sure you are a fine gentleman who takes all kinds of lovely pictures of scarcely dressed young males and Louis Vitton is at the top of your wishlist this Christmas, but the point I was making concerned the art of being gracious in a potential hazardous situation ie pr.

However i would like to thank you for pointing out rule 4.5 section 3. This particular rules states 'This competitor may compete only with the approval of the Pro League.' which takes us back to my original post in this thread where I stated 'It ain't gonna happen' as a quote. To be more specific, at this point there is no approval of the Pro League.

Once again I would like to thank you for your input in this discussion and for being person 527 who has shown an interest in the rules of the IFBB Pro League.

even if the main sponsor doesn’t influence the judging; AMI wont let them down.  they have to be happy to keep the chance of sponsoring the show again alive

If I didn't take the photos you'd have less to hang on your wall and as for "Louis Vitton", check your spelling. Personally I wouldn't consider paying that much for luggage.

The fact remains that there is a rule that allows for someone to receive a special invite.
There is precedent for it to happen.
Ed is sponsored by the title sponsor of the Mr Olympia.

"Ain't gonna happen" is looking more like "could happen".

And if it does, good luck to him. He's deserving as anyone.

There are lots of guys deserving, but it wont change the fact that we have a system in place....and no athletes are given an invite due to sponsor consideration

I constantly monitor this site upwards of 16 hours a day, constantly pushing the refresh button in anticipation of Bob Chick logging in and posting, so that I may slander him in a public forum.

Why not?
What would be wrong with considering and then allowing a title sponsor's athlete to receive a special invite?
As the Athletes rep what would be your recommendation should this happen?
