Hmm...historically the development in both Oz and NZ has been very similar. My experience with people from both places over the years has shown me this too; the accents are different, that is true but only someone trained to hear it (like myself) can distinguish them. Also, Canada and the USA have gone down very different historical paths.

I would be interested in hearing one significant and major difference (politically and/or culturally) between Oz and NZ

But my point is, Australians take offence if you say NZ is part of Australia. The kiwis probably woulkdn't like it either.

Other countries that were once under the monarchy still keep the Union Flag on their Flag. Fiji does this, so does Hawaii, even now when it is considered a state of North America.

Anyway, my point was, Aus & NZ = different countries.

I think they are very similar in outlook and mentality but there are small differences. I have worked with loads of Kiwis and Aussies, very similar indeed.
