PRESS RELEASE

WE UNDERSTAND THAT MR RAFAEL SANTONJA HAS GIVEN THIS STATEMENT THAT ABBF ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP AT PATTAYA IS NOT SANCTION BY IFBB AND THE ANSWER IS VERY SIMPLE THAT ABBF DO NOT REQUIRE ANY APPROVAL OR SANCTION BY THE IFBB SINCE THEY ARE NOT LEGALLY REGISTERED INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATION IN SPAIN AND MOREOVER, WE ARE NOT AFFILIATED TO THE IFBB.

WE (ABBF) ARE RECOGNISED BY THE OLYMPIC COUNCIL OF ASIA AND A SEPARATE ENTITY AND A SOVEREIGN BODY. IN FACT THEIR SO CALLED ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIP AT AURANGABAD IS NOT APPROVED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. THEREFORE THE IFBB EVENT AND CONGRESS IN INDIA IS NOT LEGAL.

IT IS UNBECOMING BEHAVIOUR OF MR. RAFAEL SANTONJA REPRESENTING THE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION WHICH DOES NOT EXIST LEGALLY AND ALLOWING INDIVIDUALS TO REPRESENT A COUNTRY WHEREBY THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY ACCREDITIONS OR RECOGNITION BY THEIR NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE OR BY THEIR MINISTRY OF SPORTS.

MR RAFAEL IS BEHAVING IN INAPPROPRIATE MANNER. THE WORKING OF MR RAFAEL SHOWS THAT HE IS UNINTELLIGENT AND LACKED ELEMENTARY ETIQUETTE IN THE INTERNATIONAL SPORTS COMMUNITY.

OVER 33 COUNTRIES SUPPORTED BY THEIR NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES AND SPORTS MINISTRIES ARE PARTICIPATING IN PATTAYA, THAILAND. ON WHAT GROUNDS MR RAFAEL IS SAYING THAT WE NEED HIS APPROVAL TO HOST THE ASIAN BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS, WE HAVE BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR THE PAST 50 YEARS, AND WE ARE CELEBRATING OUR GOLDEN JUBILEE IN PATTAYA. IT IS A SHAME THAT THIS SPANISH MAN IS INTERFERING IN OUR ASIAN AFFAIRS.

Aurangabad Asian Body Building Championship is illegal: IBBF
Mumbai | Tuesday, Jul 21 2009 IST

The IFBB Asian Body Building Championships, to be held at Aurangabad from July 24 - 27, received a massive blow with the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF) today terming the tourney as an 'illegal' one not being recognised by the Union Ministry of Sports.

Addressing a press conference in Aurangabad, IBBF Vice President Sandesh Narvekar, disclosed that the original 43rd Asian Bodybuilding Championship will be organised by Thailand Bodybuilding Association with support of Thailand Olympic Committee and Sports Council of Thailand under the patronage of ABBF, which is a member of the Olympic Council of Asia. He further said a nine-member Indian squad for the official Asian championships, to be held at Pattaya (Thailand) from August 11 to August 17, 2009, has been selected and the team is as follows: Daljit Singh, Punjab Police - 60kg Mohammad Illiyas, Chandigarh - 65 kg Mohmmad Abdulla, Karnataka - 70kg Rahul Bisht, Uttara Khand - 80kg Vijay Bhadur, U.P. - 85kg Viney Pandy, India Railways - 90kg For Junior Group Sujeet Kumar Bora, Assam - 75kg B. Kadiravan, Pondichery - 80kg Master Group Kartikeswar Jena, Orissa - 50+years Team Coach - Dr. TusharKanti Sil, Ordinance Sports Board Team Manager - Mr. Balbir Singh, Indian Railways.

Also present at the press conference were IBBF President Baba Madhok (President), IBBF Executive Director Amit Swami and IBBF General Secretary G S Nayak.

thank god I live in a free country where there is no such thing as a ministry (or even department) of sport, where the government doesn't grant official recognition to any sports league. ok, there's that anti-trust exemption for MLB. but other than that...

so let's assume that the ABBF and IFBB go their seperate ways, each hold their own contests, and each start banning each others athletes. Let's also assume that Japan and Korea stick with the IFBB, as seems to be the case. How will this affect future IFBB World Amateur Championships? Based on last year's results, not much. In the 9 weight classes, only about 34 of 130 male athletes were from the break-away ABBF countries, almost all in the lighter weight classes. For the women, its even less of an impact, as most Arab countries don't have female bodybuilding.

ONLY FEW COUNTRIES HAVE GOOD ATHELTES, LIKE BAHRAIN, QATAR, INDIA, OTHERS LIKE SRILANK, TAJIKSTAN, UZBEKISTAN, AZERBAIJAN, AND PALESTINE, DON'T HAVE STRON ATHELTES. NO DOPING TEST, AND SOME BANNED ATHELTE WILL PARTICIPATE IN THIS EVENT.

This is why they enter the IFBB Asian championships, higher chance of a medal
