if you want to hit the middle east go to Lebanon

I spent 20 days there around Christmas, traveling to the cities but spending most of my time in Beirut

because the country is half Christian it's like Europe but full of Arabs so there's plenty of booze and trendy clubs

everyone wears western clothing, everything is inexpensive - hell I only paid $165 on accommodations

like other people said the only place you can't really go is Iraq

I talked to a New Zealand couple when I was in Lebanon and they said Iran was the most friendly place they'd been - absolutely zero problems

I thought Dubai was impressive but very expensive - the McDonald's there have chicken big macs

Afghanistan was fun - I'd recommend staying away from where I was in the South though unless you bring a gun

the only bombing I remember was up north in Tripoli last September

it costs like 2000-3000 pounds ($1.50-$2) to take a bus up there from Beirut along the Mediterranean Sea

that city was my favourite, though - absolutely beautiful, delicious food (shawarma's with french fries inside!), and a super cool Crusader Castle on top the city

it only costs like $5 to get in and there aren't any tourists (probably because of the bombings)

Nah nothing wrong with Iran unless you're Israeli, or American of Iranian descent...everyone I know who went thought it was great, friendly people, good music scene, just don't take the piss in public thats all.

if you have a boner for history, Lebanon has a shit load of Roman ruins

the temples in Baalbek are fucking HUGE

you can walk almost anywhere and climb on most anything - the $10 only really pays for the guy at the front gate

there's also a massive Roman graveyard and chariot race track down in Tyre (as-Sour)

I can't say enough about Lebanon

if anyone decides to go, I'll give you the details of where I stayed in Beirut

it was cheap, clean, downtown, and two blocks from a lot of great bars/clubs (Gemmayze)

Such as Iraq, Iran, Kuwait....all the crazy places....is anyone even allowed to travel/vacation there?

who would want to?

Nobody who doesn't have to goes there in July / August - temperature way too hot. Wait until after September if you want to visit the region
