Why Shogun will beat Machida
« on: October 23, 2009, 05:25:02 AM »
Just look at Machida's fight against Sam Greco, a very capable K-1 fighter, and see Machida get dominated in the striking. Without Machida's grappling and BJJ skills he would have been KOed in that fight. I know it was long time ago, but Greco was over-the-hill at that point. Shogun is a good striker and I believe he will win...if his cardio is good.

Why are you comparing an old fight to present? Machida just dominated two previously undefeated fighters that walked throught the division.

Rua beat two way over the hill fighters and before that lost to Forrest Griffin.

Rua's agressive style is tailormade for Machida.

Haha. Not.  Dancing around acting all cocky (what shogun did for the most part in the last round) is not enough ... gotta knock out the champ.

But Machida was definitely off his game

Rogan was pretty observant... Machida was breathing hard from the beginning

Machida should have lost.  But oh well

Why? Shogun had a couple of good elbows and kicks, but he didn't do anything to make me feel sorry for him

However, another PPV main event that turned out to be pretty lame

And of course they stopped Velasquez Rothwell  ::)

Shogun ruined Lyoto with leg/body kicks, he even landed numerous clean punches.  When Lyoto would attack Shogun would put up his forearm defense and cut his right angle just enough to nullify Lyoto's straight left by taking it on the arm.  When they showed the replay of Machidas attacks in slow mo it was apparent that almost nothing he threw actually landed, it just looked good in real time.  I had Shogun up by one round, Machidas battered legs/body and cut up nose and lips told the tale of who really won.  Shogun was robbed, he fought a hell of a fight.

Pretty simple stuff here.  One guy limps out the other guy walks out,  that makes it real clear who actually won the fight.  Part II in Brazil maybe????

Shogun should be the champ.

Total fucking political bullshit

I sincerely believe that if Machdia watched tape of the fight, he would surrender the title out of pure embarassment. Rua is a true warrior. I tip my hat to him 110%.

Rarely if ever, have I seen Ufc fights that were so obviously scored the wrong way

Leg kicks are not going to win you a fight. Now, had Shogun taken Machida to the ground and given him a serious smothering then it'd be a different story because he would've been the clear dominator, both in standup and ground game. Rua did only one things. Even he wasn't sure he'd won by the end of the fight. Watch his body language at the end.

Shogun won this fight.  More importantly he exposed the holes in Machida's strategy.  Patience and timing.  I could see things about Machida during this match that I had never seen before.  Give it to Shogun, he had a pretty solid game plan and executed it well.  A rematch will go Shoguns way.   The first fight was a new experience so Shogun was a bit tentative but still extremely aggressive.

Talk about body language, Machida was the one with his head hung low after the match.

...and what did Machida do? Nothing. Over 5 rounds...5 minutes...he connected with half a dozen kicks and did not land a single hard punch. He took a lot of damage and could hardly walk and Shogun was the agressor. Tell me how Machida won?  ::)

Hopefully he will try that next time they fight.  He made the mistake of thinking it was a track meet.  He was running away the entire fight.
