being knowledgeable nowadays isnt required to insure your own survival in our modern societies. Just drive your car to your $8 an hour job, get back home, eat, watch tv, go to bed, imitate people you saw on tv when interacting with other individuals,  repeat.

It's going to worsen EVERYWHERE (not just in north america) as life expectancy extends and more and more people inhabiting earth watch TV to "educate themselves" or raise their children.

Go ask the same questions to random french, german etc in europe and you ll get exactly the same answers.

Globalization, promoted by our worldwide so called "elites", also tends to benefit from these phenomenons big time: a giant unique country all over the earth , inhabited by a stupid "mixed" population that will work for nothing as long as they can watch TV in the evening while eating crap.
