i think 1982 and before you could tourn pro by bwinning wt.class at nat.but if you won at worlds which was then still the universe you would qualify for the o.and a lot of guys wanted that title mr. universe,i knom belknap stayed amateur for awhile after winning overall mr.america,but then eventually turned pro without his mr. universe title
