Here is a pic of the Polk SR-124, I have 3 of them in my Yukon XL.They are very burly but very accurate and quick

Another fun fact.Do you know why the old recievers and amplifier of the 1970's had more power then todays amplifiers.
The same reason Linear power car amplifiers put out more then any other amplifier.
They used the T03 "Top transistor. These transistors were larger then Normal transistors, and have more dynamic head room then normal transistors.I wish alot of companies would use these output devices.I know MMATS Audio did in some of there amplifiers. They put out  clean, power they are reliable, and have great sound quality.
The first picture is a t03 "Top Hat' output transistor the second pic is an average output device.
These pics arent accurate in size, because in real life" Top Hat" transistors are much larger then the typical output device.
If you look at any high end amplifier from the 1970's they had these output devices in them. This is when a watt was a watt and company didnt use ISBL RATINGS= If Struck By Lightning power, lol.The only way most todays amplifiers could make there claim is if they were struck by lightning, lol

I know in the last 7 years or so most companies switched to the MOSFET circuit for their AB type amplifiers

Mosfet amplifiers are efficient, but the term Mosfet, is abused in Audio. If an amplifier doesnt have a good power supply, or large capacitors inside of it, mosfet output devices dont mean crap.
Plus alot of companies use cheap Mosfet output devices.
I like Mosfets, if they are done right but I prefer the TO3 ,because they are very reliable, and have a really smooth sound.
Plus they usually have more dynamic headroom,so your amplifier wont go into "clipping" as fast.

Here is the Inside of a Linear Power Amplifier. It is only rated at 250 watts but look at the power supply and all those output devices along the side.It truly is a work of art. This amplifier was hand made in The USA.
This 250 watt amplifer will smoke any of todays so called, 2000 watt class "D' Digital amplifiers, thats for sure
