I don't think that all blacks are dependent from cradle to grave. But, in my own family I have several aunts and uncles and some cousins that have lived all their lives on government assistance. That have abused the system.

I know what 333 is talking about. I don't agree that it applies to all blacks and there are not "special" benefits. But as to whether there are blacks that spend their life getting government handouts and feel that is the government's job to take care of them, that is true. There are people that believe that. And I will add not only blacks, but there are hispanics that believe the same thing. Those are my roots. Father Hispanic. Mother was black.

I don't know what the percentage was in the early 1960's but I'd guess it was lower

you're suggesting the the Dem strategy was to get blacks addicted to welfare and somehow that would make them reliable voters for the Dems in perpetuity yet by doing so they lost the southern white democrats who were the much larger and ostensibly more reliable voting block?
