Interesting that people need to justify losing with excuses.

The US played a great game today, and it truly could have gone either way. I'm glad Canada won, but with the way the US played today, either team would have been deserving of the Gold. The American team looked absolutely devastated. I'm sure they thought they would win today's game. They'll probably come back stronger than ever next time, so Canada will have their work cut out for them.

US sets medals record

While the Vancouver Olympics aren't finished, the medal races are - and in spectacular fashion for North Americans.

The United States is guaranteed 37 medals and Canada will finish with 14 gold medals. Both are the best of these games and part of the greatest hauls ever at a Winter Olympics.

The Americans will leave with the most medals by any country at any Winter Games. They also will win the medal count for only the second time, the other being at Lake Placid in 1932.

yes you guys might have more medal counts but you guys are also 300 million compared to 30 MILLION which is canada and pretty embarassing for your population..

canada won the most gold EVER in olympic history for most gold over all countrys.

as for the Canada vs USA game.. you can't even compare the 2 no matter how "close" the game was

canada actually plays hockey where as the only thing USA knows how to do is play dirty ....

At least the Olympics gave us something to fill the gap with until the Rugby League season starts

Yeah, because all 300 million are capable of participating in winter sports.  ::)

The overwhelming majority of athletes on the US team came from a small handful of areas like the states in the Rockies, New England and the midwestern states that are covered in snow for 6+ months a year like Minnesota and Illinois. People living in Florida aren't exactly ripping up the slopes on their skis so your population comparison is pointless.

What's embarrassing is that Canada is a winter sports haven, dumped millions of dollars into their program to win the most medals and they somehow still ended up failing. Lucky they made a late run on the gold medals or it would have been hilariously pathetic. Not to mention the litany of other embarrassments like the god awful opening ceremony and blaming a luger for smashing into an uncovered metal beam.

Not that anyone will care about the Olympics when they wake up tomorrow.

Sorry BF... the US has no excuse. If a bunch of guys from Jamaica who've never seen snow can come this close to winning a Gold medal in bobsledding, Americans have no excuse... other than we Canadians were just better than you.

::)

The winter olympics are so popular here NBC was lucky to break 20 million of 300 million watching them every night.

I, like most Americans, won't lose an ounce of sleep over this apparent "Canadian domination" nor will any of us care about it tomorrow morning.

You care enough to defend your Country's performance at the Winter Olympics. Why anyone would lose sleep over any sporting event if they aren't a direct competitor, nor have any financial stakes in, is beyond me. Sports are simply meant to be a form of entertainment (and to divert peoples' attention from more important issues, but that's another subject entirely).

Winter Olypmpics are for housewives, boring. True sports fans couldn't give a shit less - am I wrong?

A lot more PEDs involved in Summer Olympics.  Winter Olympics is more about pure skill and natural ability.  True story.

You have teams in places like Anaheim, doesn't take much to build an indoor ice rink...cali is pretty balmy.. hockey isn't always played on the ice, it can be played on rollerblades in the sun as it is commonly done in california and other places
I've seen in the u.s

Good luck with all those silver and bronze medals... they mean nothing next to GOLD

Haha, one sport. Good thing all our elite athletes play hockey like they do in Canada. Oh wait...congratulations on beating our fifth tier athletes in overtime after losing to them once.  :-X

It'd be worth making all the top athletes in worthwhile sports play hockey for a couple decades just to see the mass suicide of Canadians when they don't win shit on the international stage.

Dude considering a country of 300 million, with the supposed top training, nutrition, supplements and ilegal sport enhancement regimes got it's ass handed to it by a country of 36 million, I wouldn't be talking if I were you.

Yes you had more medals overall, but it's the gold that matters.

It's nice that Canada was the most winingest team; however, Canada's goal was to "own the podium." There were no podium sweeps by Canada and in only 2 events that I recall, Canada had two athletes on the podium: Bob Sled and Short Track. Anyway, Canada could have done better!

Don't get me started on those Bob Sled Chicks from Canada. Damn hotties! I wonder if it's anything to do with their beefy bodies and those tight jump suits? I had the urge to crack one off even while watching them... am I normal? lol and look where they put the camera, right behind their buts... c'mon... did any other guy notice this? lol Damn look good from behind.

Probably the gays were thinking the same about the guys. lol

How many people play hockey in the US?  I grew up in maryland and I knew one kid who played hockey (and his parents had to drive him an hour for practice).  Out of every kid I met, went to school with, etc.

Its probably the 9th most pop sport to play.
But, that could be said of Lacrosse, Maryland's sport. Of course, Ivy Leaguers play that.

Why do you keep bringing up population size? According to the link in this very thread (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_hockey#Number_of_registered_players_by_country) Canada has more hockey players than America. No one cares about hockey here, nor does anyone really play it as evidenced by the fact that 0.15% of our population are registered players. And our elite athletes aren't playing it like they do in Canada. And nutrition? Please. You Canadians are always arguing that your healthcare and way of life is better than ours. Your athletes have access to anything ours do.

But hey, congrats on losing to us once and then having to win in overtime on your home rink. Sure showed us. The 50 Americans that are actually fans of hockey are devastated today.

And didn't Canada have something like 7 NHL captains on their team as opposed to the 2 the USA had? Damn, we really did get owned in OT.  :-X

hes not only talking about hockey moron

hes saying that Canada won the most Gold Medals EVER in Winter Olympic history

and it is sad that a country of 300 million couldnt do it and a country of 30 million can.

getting more gold means we are better than anyone else in different sports. better as in #1 .. not #2 or #3

It's pointless to argue that when the majority of the US's athletes come from low populated areas where winter sports are prevalent. It's funny how desperate Canadians are to prove that they're better than the USA at something.

Congrats on your winter sports achievement. 24 hours later and no one cares.

Ethiopia won more gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics than Canada. Congrats, a country where 75% of the population lives on $0.50 a day and suffers from starvation has better trained athletes.  :-X

stanley cup > olympics

remember patrick roy in 2002 declined playing in the olympics because he wanted to rest up for the playoffs :)
