Good Ol' Grandma
« on: March 12, 2010, 02:13:26 PM »
My buddy was telling me about her Grandma:

When she and her siblings were young, before they could go in Grandma's house, Grandma would "sweep them down" w/a whisk broom before allowing them inside.

After allowing them to enter and having them remove their shoes, Grandma had plastic laid down on the carpet where the children could walk, and on the pieces of furniture where they could sit.

I asked my friend if it bothered her at the time and she said "No, I thought it was fun!"

The children were allowed to have out one game at a time and then return the game neatly to the closet before starting another.

Grandma wore nothing but dresses and high heels, Mad Men style.

Grandma was quite health-conscious and would allow her husband to eat only so much during meals.  Grandpa was often seen by my friend's mother at grocery stores buying donuts and acting like he didn't see her.

When my friend went to the grocery w/Grandma, Grandma would have my friend go through the check-out lane w/the majority of the groceries, while Grandma stood in the frozen aisle watching my friend.....her hand on a chosen carton of "Ice Milk" (healthier than Ice Cream) and when the groceries were almost all rung through, Grandma would run the Ice Milk to the check out lane thus minimizing melt.

Please share your Grandma stories :)

My paternal Grandma was a card cheat who used to carry a medicine bottle in her purse with whiskey in it.
The more she sipped her cough syrup , the more she cheated , and yelled at you if you called her on it.
She lived in a big scary house with a huge barn that had hundreds of bats living in the rafters , my god it was awful smelling .
I remember one night sitting in her living room when I was like 5 or so and all of sudden she went flying out the front door with a broom yelling cursewords ... she came back in muttering about the crazy man next door always peering in her windows !!!

I used to fear going there  :-\

My maternal Grandmother was born on halloween and was a mean old witch. She just hated everyone .

I'm really doomed to become a bizarre old woman

didn't know mine.  Both sets passed away when I was young.  Only remember meeting my dad's mom once.  My Grandpa on my mom's side was apparently quite the guy though.  Ran an underground casino in spain, was imprisoned fasely for harboring what cops thought was a communist and spent time in prison for it.  Apparently he carved a swinging monkey in a cage from an olive pit.  I on the other hand can fart loud enough to wake the dead.  I guess talent skips generations.

Shows how someone can put their mind to use , today that doesn't happen enough.
Reading a book is near passe' , most people have trouble spelling correctly , and if the internet crashed people would consider suicide.

My grandmother on my mothers side was a light skinned half Irish/English woman.I take after my dads side, dark skinned Dago looking.
when I was small and would stay with her she would take me into the tub and scrub me red till I was crying because she thought I was dirty.but I was just really tan.
