My buddy was telling me about her Grandma:
When she and her siblings were young, before they could go in Grandma's house, Grandma would "sweep them down" w/a whisk broom before allowing them inside.
After allowing them to enter and having them remove their shoes, Grandma had plastic laid down on the carpet where the children could walk, and on the pieces of furniture where they could sit.
I asked my friend if it bothered her at the time and she said "No, I thought it was fun!"
The children were allowed to have out one game at a time and then return the game neatly to the closet before starting another.
Grandma wore nothing but dresses and high heels, Mad Men style.
Grandma was quite health-conscious and would allow her husband to eat only so much during meals. Grandpa was often seen by my friend's mother at grocery stores buying donuts and acting like he didn't see her.
When my friend went to the grocery w/Grandma, Grandma would have my friend go through the check-out lane w/the majority of the groceries, while Grandma stood in the frozen aisle watching my friend.....her hand on a chosen carton of "Ice Milk" (healthier than Ice Cream) and when the groceries were almost all rung through, Grandma would run the Ice Milk to the check out lane thus minimizing melt.
