That’s been a popular rumor for a lot of years.
Personally, if it were true, I don’t think Vince would have given Macho the on-air sendoff he did.

I remember watching – I think – Superstars, and, while sitting at the ringside announce table, Vince spoke directly into the camera addressing Savage’s departure, wishing him all the best in his future endeavors.
Of course, Vince knew he was heading to WCW, but regardless…


A more believable story is that the reason Vince is so bitter towards Savage is that when he left the Fed, he took Slim Jim and their advertising $$ with him.
Vince relied very heavily on sponsor revenue at that time.


Exactly. Savage generated tonnes of cash for the WWE and was always a top star from the first day he appeared in july of 1985. But in the end, money talks and BS walks. 3 year deal with WCW for 2 mill per year + all his slim Jim revenues. $$$
