do you mean the judging standard bit?

I think due to never being able to duplicate 83 shape. Also some youngster from Atlanta, Lee-something... had the best and biggest physique at the time, 84-86 were his, 87, 88 Gaspari couldve done it, but difficult for a new young pro, no matter how good, to come out of nowhere and nab it from a reigning Olympia(ask Levrone). 89, 90 Labrada.
But in 84, Haney couldnt be denied.

Could a 1974 Arnold Schwarzenegger have beaten a 1984 Lee Haney?

I wonder why? Was it because he only trained in France? Was it his height? He had some of the best biceps of all time and overall great and symmetrical structure.

in my opinion the only thing he lacked was charisma and as you know all top pros must be charismatic to help them to sell everything more :-\..

i am not saying pastel deserved to be a top finisher at the olympia but he definitely deserved a constant top ten place!!..

yes, lots of top non-US guys havent done that well, maybe due to being based out of the USA

Nimrod King, Renel Janvier, Tom Terwilliger, John Terilli, Geir-Borgan Paulsen are a few examples

One notable exception was Yates, but Yates right from the time he turned pro, had massive, constant coverage in Flex due to Peter McGough being a big fan of his. Also spilled over to M&F. That kind of exposure helps a lot.

I'm sure being best buds with Weinberger and staying with him in NY for weeks prior to the O each year didn't hurt either.  ;)

Steve judged Yates in one contest and he placed Yates behind Momo for second  ;)

Dorian had almost NO coverage at his first contest

Only because Yates was a relative unknown. Imo, Danny and Yates should have placed higher than Momo.
