Not talking about gear or food specifically supps?  I already have a ton of money invested and don't want to buy every little magic bean out there

It’s a popular rumor that Arnold was among quite a few top guys of that time who were under contract to Weider, but secretly purchased & used the Blair protein powder.
Draper was another – depending on who’s telling the story.

While Weider sold a crappy soy mix at the time, Blair’s & Gironda’s clients were making incredible gains on the Blair powder (a milk/egg blend).
They were also mixing the stuff with heavy cream & eggs, which alone, would make one grow.

Free form amino capsules & liver tablets were the other "big things" back then. A lot of guys took each by the handful throughout the day.
There wasn’t much more than that in the way of supplements back then – comparatively limited in relation to today’s online catalogs.

And don’t buy that shit about Arnold not drinking milk because “milk is for babies…beer makes you grow…”
A lot of what Arnold said/says is for image.
Back then, AS needed to be THE alpha-male. Now he’s a politician.
They're both so full of crap that their eyes are brown.

Montague is pretty accurate, but i don't believe any of that actually made a difference for Arnold.

Eating a well balanced diet, getting plenty of rest, training with intensity, taking a bunch of AAS and having good genetics are more important.

Blair's protein powder was ahead of it's time, but nothing special by today's standards IMO. Heavy cream and lots of eggs will make you grow for sure.

I think John Ziegler had more impact on Arnold's bb success than Rheo Blair.

heavy cream is whipping cream, not whipped cream.  Coffee cream is 1/2 an 1/2 and ice cream is ice cream.

We personally use heavy cream in some of the shakes to bring up the calories and help with the digestion of protein. Cream primarily because it tastes good and the saturated fats also help with natural testosterone production. Others that recommend this method are Rob Faigin (Natural Hormonal Enhancement), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding), Vince Gironda and Rheo Blair who taught this method to us. You can substitute flax, macadamia, and olive oil; or natural nut butters like almond butter or cashew butter if you are concerned with saturated fat.

On the diets where we recommend cream we are trying to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time. The only way do to this is high calories (to build muscle - thus the cream) and low sugar and carbs to utilize fat for energy. The high fat diet was recently studied in the Journal of the American Medical Association and shown to have favorable effects on cholesterol, blood pressure and other markers generally thought to worsen from fat intake. (This was used to support Atkins diet which recommends more saturated fat than we have in any of our diets - up to 80% fat.) We also mixed protein with Half “n” Half in the old days on a weight gain plan. The problem with half n half (unless you are very lean) is that it does contain some milk sugar.

I remember reading in MM that Larry Scott used to drink a gallon of half-and-half a day to bulk. My chest hurts just thinking of that.

I tried it a few times when I started working out. It tastes like milk by itself and is good for mixing protein drinks, but it's loaded with fat. It'd be very unhealthy over the long haul.

Just out of curiosity how does the cream help with the digestion of protein? Im curious because I have a big problem with that.

Some people suggest that you cannot digest any protein powder isolates without natural fat being present.
Heavy cream satisfies that requirement.

However, as far as digestion purposes, enzymes such as protease, papain, bromelain, etc. may yield comparable benefits.
