The US can bail itself out by printing more money, just like Zimbabwe we both have a Fiat currency system. Since 1971 this system has been in place and we have been in steady decline since.

Grant, do you think that the British hold any responsibility for the plight in Zim since they backed out of the promised loan to stabilize the Gov?  If you recall they promised said money once the Zim gov attempted to redistribute the land from the .01% minority to the majority 99%.

I have to speak in code otherwise you will place me in timeout for speaking the truth.

Only Ron can put anyone in time out.

Firstly I think that land resdistribution had its merits and needed to take place ....but the way it was handled was appalling.  I'm not sure that the Brits ever agreed 100% to paying out the farmers ....but yes, they certainly should have done a lot more.  It's a tricky one .....if Obama today told all the Irish to leave Boston and for the Irish government to pay out do you really think Ireland would pay?  I'm a third generation Zimbabwean who bought our farm far and square AFTER Independence....so did we deserve to have it taken away??

Finally....has the land reform achieved anything? Mugabe gave it to his ZANU cronies and the people that voted him in never benefited.  The country went from a strong economy to an absolute mess.

Are you saying that as long as we are "people", gold will have value? Thank god for that.

Humans from different parts of the world have always considered gold to have value since it was discovered many thousands of years ago? This is no coincidence, it is due to the unique physical properties of gold, and its rarity.

Diamonds mainly have value due to marketing and the contol of its supply by the debeers company. IE the diamond market is manipulated by a monopoly to keep prices high. Also diamonds can be synthesized in a lab, so you can't really compare diamonds to gold.

Paper currency can be created at will, by a money printing press, and via fractional reserve banking processes, and as such it can be devalued due to increassing its supply in the economy. This is one of the main reasons why the cost of goods and services are going up over time. It is because the paper currency is losing value due to the increase in its supply, therefore you need more bits of paper to buy goods and services.

Anyway the point of my message was that in the future gold will have value, and the US dollar will continue to lose value and has the possiblity of having no value (apart from maybe use as toilet paper or combustible material for a fire) if certain economic events take place.

Yeah who wants all that worthless U.S. currency

I'm gonna burn mine now. I've seen the light  ::)
