I wouldn't say that is fake, my neighbour takes akido and he was saying that the pros look like that. You are taught how to roll, but the movement are done in a effortless manner...and he started doing them to me...I didn't know to roll, and when he began he didn't either.
it's garbage.

if akido is so good then why dont you see anyone use it successfully in ufc or pride where the best fighters in the world compete. They use martial arts that work and akido doesn't applie in a real fight. akido only works when your opponent attacks you in a certain way and throws himself  ::)

I thought you where in to mma but you are clearly clueless.

Haha, you guys are clueless yourself, don't even know how to spell it! (except for James Blunt)

it's garbage.

EVERY martial art has it's good and bad side, aikido too

if akido is so good then why dont you see anyone use it successfully in ufc or pride where the best fighters in the world compete. They use martial arts that work and akido doesn't applie in a real fight.

UFC rules don't allow Aikido techniques to be applied

akido only works when your opponent attacks you in a certain way and throws himself  ::)

In the beginning this is a way to train, like in any martial art: you attack like this, then I will practice to do that. It's called a DRILL and it exists in every sport also in MMA!!
You have to divide every martial art (or any other sport for that matter) into 2 sections: exercise and application.
First you practice on what to do (footwork, handwork, bodywork) then you try to apply it in a different situation.
If you have other methods to train then go ahead.
Football, tennis, basketball etc etc train with those principles.

Ofcourse as always and everywhere: Aikido TOO has some shady guys and you and I wonder what they are doing and where they get their shit from, but there are also aikido guys who I wouldn't want to get in a fight with not because they do aikido but because of what they know and how they apply their knowledge when push comes to shove (pun intended) and this goes for every martial art: not the martial that makes the person, the person makes the martial art.
Same guy who is awesome and dangerous in aikido could have been a master in kung fu or MMA or hockey or whatever if he had chosen a different direction.

With regards to the video from Steven's aikido demo on page 1: yes, it's true that a couple of those falls/rolls are bullshit and to not embarass Steven in front of the audience, BUT the throws and falls he DOES connect with those guys really don't just fly because they want to, but because it's either going with how you are thrown or locked or trying to just stand there and get smashed or injured.
Ever been in a martial art training, let's say muay thai and just stand there and receive a low kick without responding with a block or even moving a little with the kick you receive as opposed to just stand there?

Steven Seagal Accuser -- I Manipulate Men

Originally posted Apr 13th 2010 3:42 PM PDT by TMZ Staff

The woman accusing Steven Seagal of treating her like a "sex toy" once appeared on an episode of "The Tyra Banks Show" -- where she claimed to be a "lipstick lesbian," who can "trick" men.

Back in 2009, Kayden Nguyen appeared in an episode titled "The Gay Kingdom" -- in which she bragged, "I can use my sex appeal to get any girl that I want and trick any guy to getting what I want."

As TMZ first reported, Kayden filed a lawsuit against Seagal claiming she took a job as his executive assistant ... but was instead treated like a sex servant.

Kayden's episode was taped on January 29, 2009 -- roughly one year before her alleged sexual encounters with Steven Seagal.

looks like seagal showed this 'lipstick lesbian' what was up and gave her a long overdue reality check.

oh please...

aikido is just for show...doesn't work in a real fight. simulated attacks with sloooow punches and kicks that is not even ment to connect.. you have to be a real gullible moron not to see that.
http://www.aikiweb.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13752

see what this aikido practitioner wrote about it for example after seeing it for what it is;
Quote
After two years commited learning i feel the enviornment of the mat, the bowing, the measured, often slow mo attacks, and the spiritual aspect thats to heavily influenced the art, hasn't at all prepared me for real face to face confrontations and attacks. Nearly all the techniques ive learn are useless in a split second attack when a fist is flying at you, someone is up in your face, red faced BOOM they swing. Grapple you to the floor etc I feel very 'empty' with Aikido, and thats the only way i can describe it. In all honesty i've gone back to street fighting. But without the fists or feet as my job wont allow it. Jus basic throw downs, bear hugs etc. But no Aikido, it just doesnt work, or hasnt felt natural.
it's a pretty accurate description of what it is. (ie. useless)

(although now the guy is gullible again and wants to pursue krav maga which is also just simulated attacks and not practiced for real)

anyways i'm done talking about this subject. it's like talking to a religious person about logic.

You quoted me but you didn't understand a word from what I wrote: exercise-application being the key words here.
You're showing me a link but have you read all the replies and the guys whole story? It's actually a very good link to proof my point and I will save it. Thanks for this. It's saying what I said here already: the person makes the martial art (it works for some, because of how they train and they make it work)

Yeah, take it from somebody who practiced 2 years aikido, now there is a credible source so his word MUST be true!

Quote

Again: ALL martial arts are simulated attacks. How else do you want to practice the move before you can apply it?

At least we share the way we feel about eachother.
What is a sport you can relate to? (doesn't have to be a martial art)

The guy also mentioned:
-It takes way to long to learn, it's more of a life growth art, as opposed to something you can be good at in 6 months etc
-Of course there will be doormen who it works for and who use it. Perhaps they learned quicker, had better teachers etc or another art to back them up
-i've never actually used any Aikido technique, without knowing it im sure the endless tai sabaki's have helped me movement wise, they must have
-I personally feel in Aikido (because thats the only martial art i know) locks holds etc are not practical in a street situation. Unless you've had a good 5 or so years solid Aikido to perfect them? and thats just way to long.  ::)
(You prefer MMA but tell me which MMA guy has been training less then 5 years without another background and is good at it? Those that are are an exception to the rule and very few and hard to find)

-SNAP...thats how they normally come flying. Out of the blue. Move out the way fine, but what then?

he doesn't know what to do after moving out of the way, but a little later on Krav Maga:

-Also the point earlier on the guy makes about its not pretty, meant to be flowing, but simply meant to defend you, so you can run...

so if you do aikido and move out of the way you don't know what to do, but if you learn krav maga and move out of the way, you learn how to run?

what ever. I don't care what you do with your life. You're a gullible nerd like the rest aikido practitioners. If someone came at you punching you in the face you wouldn't know what the fuck to do. 'Take their wrist'  oh brother  ::)

maxx, you are so clueless it is laughable.

Aikido is derived from jujuitsu and judo, the techniques of aikido were not even shown to people outside the Japanese race till after WWII. The true basis of the majority of Aikido moves involves neck and arm breaking, and the redirection of opponents energy.

Aikido defends against ALL angled attacks, which encompasses any form of punch or strike(including a strike with a knife, bottle, or other object) and not simply "take my wrist" as you try to simplify an incredibly complex marital art.

Aikidos techinques are taught to many police departments as well as used in military hand to hand training. I am sure the military and and police department like to waste time on "fake stuff" just like wrestling hahah.

As a general rule, if you know nothing about a subject, do not make blanket statements or comments or you will come of sounding ignorant, which in this case your are.

http://lyotomachida.net/lyoto-machida-bio/

“I believe Machida is one of the most exciting fighters to watch because of his unbelievable ability in so many areas. He’s had fights with decent opposition recently in Hogar, Heath and Nakamura, yet he made all of them look very very below par. The mixture of ultra-disciplined karate, sumo, bjj and what looks like some Aikido is proving to be a unbeatable combination.”
