What if I don't mail in my jury summons?

If I don't mail it in they can't prove I ever got it, right?

Will the judge put out a bench warrant?


Will I get fined?


Will they just forget about me?

I'm not asking how to not be selected....

I got the summons in the mail and the directions read " Mail back in FIVE days!" well, I'm not gonna mail it in.

That way they may never know I got it. If I get another one in the next few months I suppose I will go in.

A friend of mine said he didn't mail his back and about 6 months later he got another one that was a different color and said if he didn't respond he could face a fine or some shit. ::)

Thats the thing, I plan to move in Nov so if I can keep putting it off by the time they catch up with me I will be long gone  ;D

The thing is its at 8am down town. This means I would have to get up at 6am ( I usually like to sleep till 7-7:30 and take my time while I eat breaky as I watch SportsCenter or FOX and Friends)   and drive down to the depths of downtown ( AKA the ghetto) and then catch a bus over to the courthouse. Selection is all day and they only pay about 25$.

What a waste of day!

3 years ago i got one  in the mail.. and said fuck it.. i cant afford to miss work and not get my checks from work.. cuz i know they pay u min wage or something per hour.. nothing has happened to me yet and its been 3yrs

Send them your new address and tell them you've moved. I used to write them back that I had moved to a different county all the time, they stopped sending them to me. ;)

You can just defer your summons.  In LA you just have to show up for one day.  If you don't get selected then you don't have to come back and your duty is served.  Not sure how other counties handle it though.  You can just go and get it over with it or defer it over the phone through an automated system (in most cases).  I was out of the country when I received mine last year, called the phone number and deferred it 4 months.

The summons reads: that if you have a diff addy you have to send in a bill that has your name and new addy on it as proof- obviously I haven't moved yet so thats impossible.
