most of those salaries will double within 6 years or so.. im an engineer and those are higher than we pay grads in australia.

our grads start on about $55k Au and within 5 years its about $75-$80k and after 10-15 its $120+.

but for oil and gas its always higher. after 10 years oil and gas guys are getting $150-$200k Au..

Same in NYC. Same in Boston. San Fran -- etc.

A parking spot just sold in Beacon Hill here in Boston, for 250k. A parking spot.

Let me ask you (because it's never occurred to me to ask my wifes cousin)....how does that work, I mean how would it be paid? Is it part of a house mortgage payment, is it paid separate? Can you actually finance a "parking spot"??

good salary, but as stated above, you should also look for 5,10,20 year perspective and also taxes.

130.000 means shit in Europe, because you get only around 60.000 in the end.  :'( :'( :'( :'(

i notice that picture is labeled as "keynesian." if the dumbass who made that pic actually thinks thats what keynesian economics is... well, wow.  deficit spending is not just a form of taxation.  I guess i shouldn't expect more from conservatives... but if people are going to make propoganda, they should at least do it right:

i'm a former engineer and i have never heard of anyone being offered that.  Even the most elite of engineers don't even get offered 130k.

I actually had to leave computer programming in 1998 because i couldn't get any employment.  The sad part about this is that only a very small fraction of engineering/computer grads even get any offers of employment.

Brutal lack of reading skills and comprehension......that 40% in taxes DID NOT include health care so, my math is pretty right on.

Well, considering most on here that have even somewhat of a comprehension on how the average tax is taken (roughly 38-40%) they would know that doesn't include health care.........but then again I have to remember this is getbig so EVERYTHING has to be spelled out and not assumed.......right Chimps?

Again, your original post notes that the 40% INCLUDES health care!!

Hey what do you think guys...in the USA how much annual income a family need to have a great, comfortable living?

I know it depends on many things but still I'm curious about the opinions of the American forum members.

In NY to be worry free with mortgage, taxes, and other expenses at least 80 to 100k.

Ya I have 2 spots (in a downtown Toronto Yorkville condo thats considered luxurious) built in to mortgage.

Added 80,000 to my mortgage and another $200 extra a month in condo fees.

depends how close the suburb is to the city and also how close to the coast.... close to either is expensive.

we live in the city and pay $4750 per month in rent for a nice but not big apartment... in suburbs you can get an old house for $2200 per month though.

a house near the beach is $2-$3 million to buy if it is decent but can run a lot higher.

food and gas are the killers though... good steak is about $13-$14 per pound... there are 2 main supermarket chains who run what is pretty much a cartel operation.

australia is gonna face some tough times soon though because everyone has been relying on increasing home equity and have huge credit card debts but things are slowing down and once the job market softens and house prices fall then many people are fucked.

i tend to agree with this post. our principal and senior guys get between 110 and 150. and theyve been doing it for 20 years. unless of course you are referring to contract rates?

we pay contractors $150-$250 per hour. that equates to well over $300k PA, and some contracts go longer than 12 months, but most are 6 months or less.

prior to my current gig (on $155k), i was getting $200ph..which is good while it lasts- but ive been doing this for nearly 20 years.

most technical types who arent engineers get about $80-$100 ph.

grads would get about that- which equates closer to about $170k.
