The most obvious one is that atrocities committed in the name of Islam happen all over the world with regularity in any geographic location where there is a high concentration of Muslims. When a cartoon of Moohammed gets drawn, tens of millions of Muslims riot all over the planet calling for the death of the artist. You can dig into the past and find Christian atrocities in the middle ages but the Muslims were definitely no better. They have been waging jihad for 1400 years now. From the 80 million Hindus they killed when they tried to conquer India to the millions of Christians, Jews and other religious groups that they killed when they conquered the Middle East to the assault they waged on Europe, they excelled at violence and war. The only difference is that the civilized world has moved on while the Muslims take two steps backwards for every one step forward.

Almost every country where Muslims have a significant foothold is subjected to violence and terrorism. For further proof, look at the increasing number of acid attacks, honor killings and extremists in England. I think Sarah Palin recently got a blessing by an pastor famous for hunting down and rooting out witches in Africa. 

Christians have been known to burn women as witches both in Europe & America. And to torture and kill people for making the sign of the cross incorrectly. Yah so it was hundreds of years ago. the point is, Islam like Christianity will eventually change given enough time. I suspect the transition might occur sooner for islam than it did for Christianity.

Furthermore, if you listen closely to what the cleric said, he said it was risky for women because a broken hymen could result is accusations of fornication, and some people might go outside of religious law and kill her. He didn't say she deserved to die, but that those who would kill her would be outside of religious law. in other words, killing a woman to restore honour is not part of islamic law.

it's in my opinion the equivalent of saying it is risky behaviour to leave your car unlocked in a crime infested neighbourhood because there are those who might decide to break into to it and steal it. does that mean you deserve to get your car stolen? no, it means there are those who would break the law and to leave your car there is engaging in risky behaviour.

They have well demonstrated in the past the capacity for tremendous advancement & innovation exceeding that of the then western world.
