In my opinion, unless you are 18 and are involuntarily forced into the armed services and are on the front lines of battle, you have no right to bitch about not being able to drink until you're 21. 

If you're not in the armed services, who the fuck are you to even play that card?

What you should be pissed about as an American is the religious right shoving their perverted morality down our throats at every turn, lobbying for laws that have turned this country from land of the free to land of the free but only if you follow bullshit christian ideals down to the letter.

Whatever happened to "no harm, no foul".  People left and right are lobbying for laws that make absolutely no difference to their lives.  They just want to control everyone else who disagrees with them.  Its a goddamn shame.

Due to the alarming number of deaths caused by 18-20 year olds drinking and driving, the federal government gave the states the following ultimatum - raise the drinking age to 21 or receive no federal funds for your highways.  Every state folded without hesitation.  And ultimately, the number of traffic related deaths decreased.  Very few people over 21 think it should be legal for under 21s to drink.  With age comes a certain level of maturity (at least in some people).  That being said, I don't see the big deal in throwing my 18 year old cousin a few beers ata family party, so long as they are not driving.

yeah, mixing the two is never a good idea. And a means of transportation is more important than getting drunk. Most countries have age limits of 18 or older on, driving, drinking, tobacco etc... 16 is very young and 21 is quite old.
