Steroids used properly are unlikely to produce any life threatening effects. However, I don't think it's a great idea to use thousands of milligrams a week for extended periods of time. There is some evidence to suggest that the heart can be negatively affected by large steroid doses. Many bodybuilders from the 70's and 80's have had heart surgeries or heart attacks..and many you've never heard of. The steroids cause the LDL and HDL levels to be thrown off. For a temporary period, this is no big deal..but prolonged imbalances in these levels leads to dangerous plaque build up in the arteries. The kidneys , through various mechanisms (including high blood pressure)can be damaged by excessive steroid use...and of course the liver can be strained, especially if methylated orals are used for a long time. Prolonged use of steroids will definitely cause a lowereing of your own testosterone, which sometimes never returns to normal. Most guys now say, "Screw it, I'll just go on HRT." But when you are in your 20's and you need to take test just to function normally, you probably have to look forward to also taking ancilliaries like HCG, Arimidex, Proscar to combat test sides...for life. This, in my opinion, is not a strategy for optimum health.
