 As for Russia, it's never been a great super power or better yet it has never claimed to have been such. It would be great if China or India or US were great superpowers etc but what is for certain -
 - Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than a ninth of the Earth's land area.
 - Russia has the world's largest reserves of mineral and energy resources.[8] It has the world's largest forest reserves and its lakes contain approximately one-quarter of the world's fresh water.
 - Our military technology is superior to yours, we are better in cosmos and don't doubt we don't share secrets!!!

 Now if you call yourself a policeman try to school us. Try to invade the largest country unless we don't care what your mouth lips flap. I repeat but in case you may haven't had known there are Russian nuclear-powered attack submarines lay still near New York, Washington and Los Angeles? The U.S. Military is still the best in the world.....and Russia's weapons barely work and have never been tested in battle....Our soldiers are motivated and are battle-tested....the Russian military hasn't fought a real war in years and got its asses kicked in Afghanistan and in chechnya.....Russia probably cannot even beat China in war.....Russia could be a great country if it had better leadership, but is still a second class country.....However I will admit that Russia is very good in terms of space technology....I am waiting for these nuclear reactors you are building in these different countries to have a meltdown like chernobyl did

I don't see Russia having much of anything as a military power in the near future much less 10-20 years from now.  The country is still busy learning how to be capitalist.  It's rife with corruption right now.  Their military is mostly outdated.  They have some modern equipment but too few in numbers and lack the expertise and experience on the battle field to use it effectively  against China or the USA.  They are likely to still be entrenched in the force of numbers doctrine of battle.  The first gulf war showed how effective that is.

Now China on the other hand could be a real rival in 20 years, but they a have a whole lot of catching up to do.

Good post and all true.  Russia/Soviet Union was way behind by the end of the Cold War, just couldn't keep up with us technology and spending wise and had out of date garbage in many cases.....I'm sure it's much worse now, other than a small amount of stuff.

China has made huge progress in the last 20 yrs.   they were just a massive ground force with outdated equipment for years until our idiot govt started exchaning info with them (read.....let them have info because they didn't have shit we needed).

 I'm not sure we are tying to copy someone or something, Russia is inique and it'll not be capitalist as you put it. Something inbetween. US or anyone else simply cannot come to us and teach us as US did to Iraq. That's the difference.

What ever you call the direction they are heading it is rife with corruption at all levels.  It's like Mexico over there in the sense that if you need some thing done you only need to bribe the right people, if you get in trouble you only need to pay people off.  That includes everything from customs to an ordinary police officer .


What ever you are doing you are experiencing growing pains.  It will be a good while before the country hits it stride.  Hell the median income in the country is still what $900 dollars a month per family?  I know in Moscow it's a little higher.  But still.
