Mysterious Missile Launch Off Calif. Coast Sparks Investigation
By Denise Chow

SPACE.com Staff Writer

Few details are surfacing about the mysterious missile launch seen Monday night (Nov. 8th) from a point just off the southern coast of California, with aerospace and defense officials trying to find out exactly who launched it and why.

"We're looking into it," Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, told SPACE.com.

In the video, a long plume of exhaust can be seen as the missile rockets into the evening sky. The launch occurred about 35 miles out at sea, west of Los Angeles and north of Catalina Island.

Gregor said, "We did not approve any commercial space launches in that area for Monday, and any additional information should come from NORAD. That's pretty much all I can say right now."

A spokesman with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency told SPACE.com in an e-mail that the incident was "not an MDA test or launch." [Most Destructive Space Weapons Concepts]

A Navy spokesperson told station KFMB that no Navy activity had been reported in the area Monday evening. NORAD — the North American Aerospace Defense Command — is a joint U.S.-Canadian organization charged with providing aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning for North America. NORAD is working in conjunction with U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) to investigate last night's launch.

The mission of USNORTHCOM is to provide military command and control of homeland defense efforts and support local, state, and federal authorities. It was established in October 2002.

NORAD provided SPACE.com with the following statement: "NORAD and USNORTHCOM are aware of the unexplained contrail reported off the coast of Southern California yesterday evening. At this time, we are unable to provide specific details, but we are working to determine the exact nature of this event. We can confirm that there is no threat to our nation, and from all indications this was not a launch by a foreign military. We will provide more information as it becomes available."

The U.S. military does, on occasion, conduct missile test launches and other weapons tests over the Pacific Ocean that are publicly announced.

On Oct. 29, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency conducted a drill with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in a joint test of ballistic missile defense intercept capabilities. Photos and videos of that launch, as well as of several others conducted during the last few months, were released via the Missile Defense Agency's website.

Bad mindset...Bad tactic. As it stands nothing will stop the drop of the dollar or its replacement. I do however believe this is why america is trying to get its hand on the control of oil in the Persian Gulf adn Red Sea. If it controls the shipping traffic, then it controls the economies of nations needing the oil from that region...Did someone just say WWIII IS COMING REAL SOON

Everyone just keep your eyes open just in case this heralds in THE EVENT. Too many things are happening all at once and all too conveniently. Obama ratings falling like Bush, economy in trouble like during Bush, trouble within the government itself like Bush and then all of a sudden a 911 event. Now it is Obama's turn...was this why he was given the NOBEL....for playing out this potential event while he is gallivanting around the world making bullshit lectures/speeches. Was not Bush in a school in Florida while the event occurred...Obama is in Indonesia.... Make sure your GRAB AND GO bag id ready somewhere.

THE PLOT THICKENS... Too many coincidences here, this was a distraction at best ... to get the masses attention on something else other than what is really happening in the world and america.

“Missile” Fired Off California Coast On Same Day That Chinese Sub Surprised US Carrier Group

Posted by Jim Hoft on Thursday, November 11, 2010, 2:17 PM

Coincidence?
The missile fired off of the California coast this week appeared on the same day that a Chinese sub surprised US officials when it appeared suddenly in a US carrier group back in 2007.

Back in 2007 a Chinese submarine surprised American military chiefs when it popped up close to the massive U.S.S. Kitty Hawk.
HotAir reported back in 2007:

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk – a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.

According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy.
The Americans had no idea China’s fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

Now this week there was a mysterious “missile” in the sky over California?

Also, authorities have not yet disclosed what caused a cruise ship to lose its power. The event supposedly began at 6 AM roughly about 10-12 hours before the possible missile launch.

If nothing else, this is interesting.

________________________ ________________________ ____________

Here is the info about the Chinese submarines surfacing around american carrier ships...I posted this some time ago showing the capabilities of the Chinese military...Maybe this is a WARNIGN form China, who said in teh past it has enough nuclear bombs to DESTROY EVERY MAJOR US CITY.

The uninvited guest: Chinese sub pops up in middle of U.S. Navy exercise, leaving military chiefs red-faced

By MATTHEW HICKLEY

Last updated at 00:13 10 November 2007

When the U.S. Navy deploys a battle fleet on exercises, it takes the security of its aircraft carriers very seriously indeed.

At least a dozen warships provide a physical guard while the technical wizardry of the world's only military superpower offers an invisible shield to detect and deter any intruders.

That is the theory. Or, rather, was the theory.

Uninvited guest: A Chinese Song Class submarine, like the one that sufaced by the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk

American military chiefs have been left dumbstruck by an undetected Chinese submarine popping up at the heart of a recent Pacific exercise and close to the vast U.S.S. Kitty Hawk - a 1,000ft supercarrier with 4,500 personnel on board.

By the time it surfaced the 160ft Song Class diesel-electric attack submarine is understood to have sailed within viable range for launching torpedoes or missiles at the carrier.

According to senior Nato officials the incident caused consternation in the U.S. Navy.

The Americans had no idea China's fast-growing submarine fleet had reached such a level of sophistication, or that it posed such a threat.

One Nato figure said the effect was "as big a shock as the Russians launching Sputnik" - a reference to the Soviet Union's first orbiting satellite in 1957 which marked the start of the space age.

The incident, which took place in the ocean between southern Japan and Taiwan, is a major embarrassment for the Pentagon.

Battle stations: The Kitty Hawk carries 4,500 personnel

The lone Chinese vessel slipped past at least a dozen other American warships which were supposed to protect the carrier from hostile aircraft or submarines.

And the rest of the costly defensive screen, which usually includes at least two U.S. submarines, was also apparently unable to detect it.

According to the Nato source, the encounter has forced a serious re-think of American and Nato naval strategy as commanders reconsider the level of threat from potentially hostile Chinese submarines.

It also led to tense diplomatic exchanges, with shaken American diplomats demanding to know why the submarine was "shadowing" the U.S. fleet while Beijing pleaded ignorance and dismissed the affair as coincidence.

Analysts believe Beijing was sending a message to America and the West demonstrating its rapidly-growing military capability to threaten foreign powers which try to interfere in its "backyard".

The People's Liberation Army Navy's submarine fleet includes at least two nuclear-missile launching vessels.

Its 13 Song Class submarines are extremely quiet and difficult to detect when running on electric motors.

Commodore Stephen Saunders, editor of Jane's Fighting Ships, and a former Royal Navy anti-submarine specialist, said the U.S. had paid relatively little attention to this form of warfare since the end of the Cold War.

He said: "It was certainly a wake-up call for the Americans.

"It would tie in with what we see the Chinese trying to do, which appears to be to deter the Americans from interfering or operating in their backyard, particularly in relation to Taiwan."

In January China carried a successful missile test, shooting down a satellite in orbit for the first time.

I have to check into this sub story but if true, it makes me wonder if this isn't related and it was all party of a very agressive chinese exercise.

Interesting, but here is what is missing....IF it was, the US would want to publicize, not deny they launched a missle.  Not to mention why would you want to do it as the President is in SE Asia basically begging from the Chinese?  I still say an inadvertent launch that the US doesn't want to admit to.  It is turning into a nice little CT story.... Grin

Or are you saying that it was the Chinese launching the missle and the US doesn't want to admit how close they got to the US coast?  That, I can buy.

it could have been either scenario.

BUT the fact we didn't get more boats in the area, get planes in the air, or evac potus makes me thing we did it, or we pretty aware of the safety of it.

The US would NOT tell the entire world they had so-and-so weapon that could be launched from so-and-so sub... Rather, we'd call the leader(s) of whatever nation he wanted to intimidate, and tell them to call their defense dept and tell them to watch this grid for a weapon demonstration in 15 minutes.  Something like that.

This was posturing dick measuring from minute one.  Missiles don't just launch and nobody bats an eye - in the middle of global economic meltdown talks - 5 minutes after chinese sub defeats our sonar capabilities Wink

the chinese sub deal was from 3 years ago.  I guess the special thing about it is that it happened on the same day 3 years ago lol...

ah, sorry, i didn't follow the story.  no news for me lately!

But yeah, no way we have a worldwide G20 financial showdown, at the exact same time a missile launches from water and nobody blinks.  No coincidence.

Not how it works, trust me.

But, I will still stick to my original thought, which can be meshed with yours, that there is no way in hell a missle was launched and we didn't detect it.

IMO it was for sure a missile.  They don't get launched by accident.  If it was a test, why would they do it from that location?  I'm not about this one.  Something else could be up.

Here is what Wayne Madsen is reporting...

China Fired Missile Seen In Southern California – Wayne Madsen

Pentagon and its embedded media covering up Chinese show of force off LA

(MadsenReport) – China flexed its military muscle Monday evening in the skies west of Los Angeles when a Chinese Navy Jin class ballistic missile nuclear submarine, deployed secretly from its underground home base on the south coast of Hainan island, launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from international waters off the southern California coast. WMR’s intelligence sources in Asia, including Japan, say the belief by the military commands in Asia and the intelligence services is that the Chinese decided to demonstrate to the United States its capabilities on the eve of the G-20 Summit in Seoul and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Tokyo, where President Obama is scheduled to attend during his ten-day trip to Asia.

The reported Chinese missile test off Los Angeles came as a double blow to Obama. The day after the missile firing, China’s leading credit rating agency, Dagong Global Credit Rating, downgraded sovereign debt rating of the United States to A-plus from AA. The missile demonstration coupled with the downgrading of the United States financial grade represents a military and financial show of force by Beijing to Washington.

The Pentagon spin machine, backed by the media reporters who regularly cover the Defense Department, as well as officials of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and the U.S. Northern Command, is now spinning various conspiracy theories, including describing the missile plume videotaped by KCBS news helicopter cameraman Gil Leyvas at around 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time, during the height of evening rush hour, as the condensation trail from a jet aircraft. Other Pentagon-inspired cover stories are that the missile was actually an amateur rocket or an optical illusion.

Experts agree that this was a ballistic missile being fired off of Los Angeles. Pentagon insists it was a jet aircraft or model rocket.

There are no records of a plane in the area having taken off from Los Angeles International Airport or from  other airports in the region. The Navy and Air Force have said that they were not conducting any missile tests from submarines, ships, or Vandenberg Air Force Base. The Navy has also ruled out an accidental firing from one of its own submarines.

Missile experts, including those from Jane’s in London, say the plume was definitely from a missile, possibly launched from a submarine. WMR has learned that the missile was likely a  JL-2 ICBM, which has a range of 7,000 miles, and was fired in a northwesterly direction over the Pacific and away from U.S. territory from a Jin class submarine. The Jin class can carry up to twelve such missiles.

Navy sources have revealed that the missile may have impacted on Chinese territory and that the National Security Agency (NSA) likely posseses intercepts of Chinese telemtry signals during the missile firing and subsequent testing operations.

Japanese and other Asian intelligence agencies believe that a Chinese Jin-class SSBN submarine conducted missile “show of force” in skies west of Los Angeles.

Asian intelligence sources believe the submarine transited from its base on Hainan through South Pacific waters, where U.S. anti-submarine warfare detection capabilities are not as effective as they are in the northern and mid-Pacific, and then transited north to waters off of Los Angeles. The Pentagon, which has spent billions on ballistic missile defense systems, a pet project of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, is clearly embarrassed over the Chinese show of strength.

Likely route of Jin-class submarine from Hainan base.

The White House also wants to donwplay the missile story before Presidnet Obama meets with his Chinese counterpart in Seoul and Tokyo. According to Japanese intelligence sources, Beijing has been angry over United States and allied naval exercises in the South China and Yellow Seas, in what China considers its sphere of influence, and the missile firing within the view of people in Southern California was a demonstration that China’s navy can also play in waters off the American coast.

For the U.S. Navy, the Chinese show of force is a huge embarassment, especially for the Navy’s Pacific Command in Pearl Harbor, where Japan’s December 7, 1941 attack on the fleet at Pearl Harbor remains a sore subject.

In 2002, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice reportedly scolded visiting Chinese General Xiong Guankai, the deputy chief of staff for intelligence of the People’s Liberation Army, for remarks he allegedly made in 1995 that China would use nuclear weapons on Los Angeles. Xiong denied he made any such comments but the “spin” on the story helped convince Congress to sink billions of additional dollars into  ballistic missile defense, sometimes referred to at “Star Wars II.”

They do get launched by accident....  not like its a weekly occurence and not nukes, but it has happened.  and of course nobody wants to admit it for obvious reasons,  But one thing I don't get is the speed of the thing?  It was very slow for a "missle."   Undecided

as for the test thing.....not sure.....not likely a test of that magnitude would be advertised to show how big our dick is....and the location is a bad one like you said.

Interesting to say the least....but it will be off the news now and we can concentrate on more important things like "will Obama allow the turkey to live this year?"
