well broski, i'm slowly working on my collection. won't be touring internationally ever, but i like to fuck around in the basement in between hitting poses.
anyways,
since i have to slowly ween the old lady onto the gear, here's the master plan:
amp wise, get all the 5 watt amps. so, i have a champ 600 now (yes i know, tone monster ) but it's still a fender clean. next up, i'll get the marshall class 5, then the ac4.
then of course, i'll get a princeton reverb, ac 15, etc.
eventually, the goal is a blackface showman, jtm45, and ac30 . you can still find hand wired ac30's for around 1200.
but you know, i'm just a jerkoff hobbyist, so i'm in no hurry to get any of it. i just like to look at it , then when i see a music video on palladia or something, i can yell "oh i have one of those".
you should also check out the 18watt marshall blues breaker. Those are sweet ass amps.
I love low wattage amps. something that people don't understand is that wattage doesn't equal volume. a 5 watt amp is half as loud as a 50 watt amp played thru the same speaker. the difference is where the breakup/distortion point is.
The tweed champs are my fav low watters. That's what Clapton used on the recording of Layla.
If you want to hear some princeton reverb porn, check out this video,
Ryan Adams running a Princeton and going out to a 2x12 vibroking extension cab. I got to check it out up close (i'm pals with his pedal steel player jon graboff) and its loud as fuck, and sounds like every vintage recording you've ever heard! He changed the stock speaker in the PR for a 12" (not sure what speaker, but pretty sure its the same as his ext cab), and in his extension cab he runs those tone tubby speakers with the hemp cones.
