Yes sir...I agree that the photo you posted certainly is "inherently gay"  some BB posing for an audience of men which has NOTHING to do with legitimate BB competitions held in venues.  As to your comment about anyone leaving a contest stage and going "directly to a private posing/ escort appointment"...I'm sure it happens, but it's not the norm, and doesnt reflect the overwhelming majority of BBers who DONT engage in anything remotely associated....

To answer your question....no, the one photo of me you keep posting had nothing to do with anything but a photo shoot with David Paul, and it was with a girl named Leighann Ross, and it was just a part of Davids wacky/ eccentric shooting style.....and also proof to your point that we do certainly view pics differently.  Ther is nothing "gay" about that photo...no other men in the pic.  Same for the one pic of Dorian....what you see as gay, others do not. 

I'm in denial about nothing...are there gay guys in BB?  Yes.  Are there gay fans who attend BB shows? Yes.  But to keep insinuating that we as pro bbers "pose to an audience of gay men...." is simply not true and is miselading at best....maybe in your gay fantasy world....but in reality, the audience is made up of the folks I mentioned...as anyone who goes to shows can see. 

So if you and a few of your gay buddies attend a MMA event, is it all of a sudden "gay"?  Lets see, two guys wrestling around with each other trying to gain dominence and "pin" the other guy down on the ground, while wearing small, lycra briefs, surrounded by an audience of cheering men....?

It is amusing to hear you and others compare bodybuilding to MMA, wrestling, and football in an obvious effort to claim their legitimacy.  No one here is asserting that those sports are gay so your comparison is unwarranted.  For one thing, those are real sports, requiring real athleticism and one does not often (ever?) see athletes from those sports peddling themselves to other men as escorts or popping up in schmoe venues like lifestyle videos, etc.  That is the norm in bodybuilding.  Even Yates called it a pageant.

I am all for fitness and training, and if one wants to show off his physique to friends and family more power to you… but why wear daisy dukes, put on a thong, or pose for musclegallery as so many well known BBs do?  I do not think you will have much luck convincing any objective person that photos like these (which are the norm in this sport) are aimed at “family, industry people, fans, women, men, & children.”

If there are gay bodybuilders and gay audience members there to see bodybuilders, then by definition Bob, bodybuilders are posing to an audience of gay men. Are there family members of competitors there? Yes, but you're making the same mistake that you claim Bay is making, and that's taking a small sample size and applying it to the intended population. I don't know how you can make yourself honestly believe that bodybuilder is a family oriented sport dedicated to the enjoyment of families and children. Have you ever been to an expo? It's a freak show at best. Bodybuilding is like a gay version of the circus. People come to see the freaks and stare and point at them, except bodybuilding is worse because the freaks are all middle aged men in thongs. Both are outcasts from society, mingle among themselves, and most likely have no chance of succeeding after their carnival, I mean competition days are over.

You were right, I was wrong and sincerely apologize for doubting that bodybuilding attracts a lot of closet homosexuals. After reading the Kevin Levrone does triceps thread it's clear you were speaking from expertise and wisdom and I was speaking from ignorance and denial. It was just hard accepting that an activity/lifestyle which has turned my life around so much could be trivialized to nothing more than sexual fantasies by gays. It pretty much makes sense as I find fitness chicks hot and don't typically consider how much work they put in to maintain their bodies.

I shouldn't have doubted your wisdom, honesty and experience on this matter and apologize once again.

If you think about it, magazines served a useful purpose.  They sanitized what is really a seedy business; they were a barrier between the bodybuilder and their schmoe fans.  This was good for bodybuilders, many of whom didn’t want to face the fact that the primary audience for their muscle shows, photographs, and flexing sessions were schmoes.  As long as they were simply posing for legitimate magazines then it all seemed kosher.

Bay, while I admire your level-headed posts on a lot of threads, you're really out in left field this time pushing your gay agenda.

First of all, if you want to analyze what BB magazines are there for, think about these things first:
1. They're there as an advertising vehicle for the supplement industry
2. They're there to inform, entertain and educate heterosexual males who want to learn from/emulate the big guys they see in them -- not have sex with them

If you want to list catering to gays, it'd be further down on the list.

Matter of fact, there was a great retrospective article a year or two ago in which MuscleMag International Publisher Robert Kennedy said when he put two men on the cover (don't quote me on this, but I think it was before Bob Paris) it didn't sell at all and he even received death threats. You haven't seen a cover like that since.

Go ask any magazine publisher. When there's a hot chick on the cover, newsstand sales do well. That's proof who is buying bodybuilding magazines.

But I digress.

What the real issues here are:
a. How the Internet has changed the advertising world
b. How print media is dying
c. We're in an economic slump

You put all those together, and making any print publication successful is a challenge.

It would be a shame to see Flex, Muscle & Fitness or MuscleMag go away. As much as I see the mags for what they are (a giant supplement ad), there is still some content I enjoy reading. As much as the Internet is nice, I'm still a fan of reading the printed page.

If you stopped trying to relate every single freakin' thing in bodybuilding to being gay, you'd get more respect around here.

 Of course. Bodybuilding is a ver family-friendly atmosphere. Lots of soccer Moms and businessmen love to go to a bodybuilding show on the weekend and cheer for their favorite bodybuilder. All in good fun.

Even if this was true, even if we assume that Bob's argument is true, and that other sports are the same as bodybuilding. This in no way justifies bodybuilding being the way it is. One could easily say that no sports should be like that. (This holds true for Bob's anti-gay argument and pro-steroid argument). Either way he loses.
