bottom 1/3rd of the movement is all legs. do deads in a rack to isolate upper body (back, traps, rear delts)

Massive lol @ using DL's as isolation.

At matrix:

Yes, I read somewhere that heavy lifting compresses your spine temporarily. I'll try to find sources.

Doing deadlifts can make you shorter. Squats can too. Anything that puts a lot of weight and strain on the back can do it.

Doing yoga can make you a little taller too.

People's spines can get stretched out or compressed down. It can make an inch or two of difference.

Personally I never go really heavy on deads or squats. The 8-10 rep range is the lowest I go. Better to stay injury free.

It seems to me that barbell squats would put more compression forces on the spine than deads would, being that the bar is placed across the neck and makes a more direct compression on the spine than deads do. Just sayin... FYI, God (gh15) says that the gh/test spike from doing deads/squats is next to nil

I've been wondering about that for a while. You always hear people talk about this test spike from squatting and I thought it sounded like an urban legend.

Lets ask Fat Panda, maybe he can show us some studies.

Yes, even just regular gravity will compress your spine.  Measure your height first thing in the morning then last thing before you go to bed sometime.

Not sure what you mean haider.  Tendons get shorter from gravity?

Haha, well I'm not going to bother reading 9 pages of that shit.  But the failure (rupture) strength of tendon is far beyond the force that even the most steroid-addled muscle fibers can produce.

I think with Sevastase deadlifts you flex your knees a bit.  Stiff-legged are supposed to be truly straight-kneed and are mostly a ham/glute exercise.

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/Hamstrings/BBStraightLegDeadlift.html

no bro, you're supposed to bend at the knees slightly... unless you want to blow out your back... which im guessing most don't want to do. i know dorian did them with actual straight legs... but look at his laundry list of injuries.

Yeah I usually bend my knees quite a bit when I do them.  It's one of the few lifts I can do an above-average amount of weight on so maybe I'm just cheating :)

nice... ya, i bend a bit too... but thats just because I feel it more in my hammys and not in my back that way.   I actually feel strong when I do these... as opposed to when I  bench press  :-[

Damn scottish genes...

So what your saying is bob chick might have been 6foot tall when he was younger...then he started doing heavy donkey squats with joe weider on his back...here's the result
