The real estate company I worked with was the original sales agency for those Bora Bora huts built over the water.
You had the option of purchasing a hut over the water, or a larger unit directly off the beach or a unit situated around a small man made lake (lagoon) about 30 years from the beach.
The water units included a glass floor so you could see the tropical fish below and a small outrigger canoe.
I forget the exact pricing details but I do recall that the huts over the water were offered in the range of $32,0000 to $40,000 (US funds). The higher priced units offered more privacy and more space between the units.
They were difficult to sell due to some political problems back then and many potential buyers were concered about Tsunami damage.
I believe an international hotel operation ended up buying them all.
