If Democrats have identified him as a top target, he must be doing something right.

Lois Frankel launches bid for Allen West’s congressional seat
by George Bennett | March 21st, 2011

Term-limited West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel announced today that she’s running for the congressional seat of freshman U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, setting up what could be yet another expensive, nationally watched race in Palm Beach-Broward District 22.
Democrat Frankel said she’ll focus on “jobs, jobs, jobs,” but declined to outline specific policy stances in an interview today.

Frankel was a fiery liberal Democratic state House member before winning the first of two nonpartisan terms as West Palm Beach mayor in 2003. She lost a bitter 1992 Democratic primary runoff for Congress to eventual U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar.

District 22 includes much of coastal Palm Beach and Broward counties and is fairly evenly split between Republican and Democratic voters. But new boundaries will be drawn before the 2012 elections.

West is an outspoken conservative with a strong national following who won the district with 54.4 percent in November.

“Allen West’s record’s going to speak for itself,” Frankel said. “I believe the focus needs to be not on talk radio. The focus needs to be on working people — on people paying their mortgages, on people getting jobs and that should be the focus of Mr. West and the rest of Congress.”

West said he’s focused on his job rather than campaigning.

“We are at a critical time in our country’s history. We need to takes steps to create jobs, restrain government spending and be focused on our national security. My focus is representing the constituents of the 22nd Congressional District. There is a time and place for politics. I am focused on representing the constituents and building a brighter future for our children,” West said.

Frankel told reporters she’s running because, “After being mayor for eight years and a mother who sent her child to war twice, I have seen first hand how the policies in Washington affect small business owners, people looking for jobs, people who have jobs and want to keep them, families. I just want to roll up my sleeves like I’ve done here in West Palm Beach and try to get a more vibrant economy here in South Florida.”

Frankel’s son served with the Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Asked about her approach to improving the economy, Frankel declined to offer an opinion on the $787 billion stimulus bill passed by Congress in 2009.

“I’m not going to comment on how I would have or should have because there’s going to be plenty of time for that,” Frankel said. “My priorities are jobs for working people….I think that’s what we need — people who roll up their sleeves and solve problems. And that’s really what I want to say today and as the campaign develops certainly we’ll put out our position papers.”

Other Democrats have shown interest in the race and Fort Lauderdale businessman Patrick Murphy recently launched a Democratic campaign for the seat.

The biggest question mark is former U.S. Rep. Ron Klein of Boca Raton, who hasn’t ruled out the possibility of running again. Frankel has hired former Klein consultant Brian Smoot to advise her campaign.

“Right now I’m not anticipating Ron Klein running for Congress,” Frankel said.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has identified West as a top target for 2012.

The DCCC has already unleashed radio ads and automated phone calls critical of West, and DCCC Chairman Steve Israel, D-N.Y., was in Palm Beach last month interviewing potential West challengers.

Frankel said she expects to raise $4 million for the race. West raised more than $6 million for his campaign last year and Klein more than $5 million.

Allen West: No to Spending Cut Deal
Saturday, 09 Apr 2011

Rep. Allen West knows exactly how he'll vote when the final version of Friday night's budget deal comes before the House: No way.

The bipartian agreement will slice $38.5 billion in federal spending, but West says that's not enough, Politico reports. So he says he will vote against the measure when it arrives in Capitol Hill sometime next week. Congress approved a stopgap measure after the budget deal to keep the federal government operating until final details in the budget deal can be hammered out.

"It's all about the money," said West (R-Fla.).

Rep. Allen West says Obama displays “third world dictator-like arrogance”

Rep. Allen West appeared on the Laura Ingraham show and said Obama displays “third world dictator-like arrogance.”

West says around the 3:11 mark:

What you continue to see is a third world dictator-like arrogance, that’s what I saw in that speech [by Obama] last week. And look, Laura, to borrow a phrase from Reverend Jeremiah Wright, the chickens are coming home to roost.

And around 3:58:

This whole talk about shared prosperity–that really gives me the goosebumps because I’m starting to believe that a community organizer is nothing but a low-level socialist agitator.

Allen West: Tired of Obama’s ‘Marxist Rhetoric’
Friday, 22 Apr 2011 06:33 AM
By Hiram Reisner

Florida GOP Rep. Allen West says he stands by his statement that President Barack Obama exhibited “Third World dictator-like arrogance” in his speech last week on the budget and America’s skyrocketing debt, and he is sick and tired of the president’s “Marxist demagogic rhetoric.”

“I do stand by those words — and perhaps one of the things that many people need to understand is that the truth needs to be said,” West Thursday said on Fox News, referring to a comment he made Tuesday on Laura Ingraham’s radio show. “When I go around and I talk to people down here in my district, and we get phone calls, that speech that was given last week Wednesday was absolutely beneath the statesmanship, or the atmosphere, or the aura of the personality that the president should show.

“I am sick and tired of this class warfare — this Marxist demagogic rhetoric that is coming from the president of the United States of America,” he told Greta Van Susteren. “It is not helpful for this country, and it’s not going to move the ball forward as far as rectifying the economic situation in our country — and I’m not going to back away from telling what the truth is.”

West said it is time to “stop playing games” when it comes to discussing America’s deteriorating fiscal situation.

“I don't think it's very presidential when Barack Hussein Obama refers to my colleague, [House Budget Committee Chairman] Paul Ryan, as a simple little accountant, either,” he said. “So I think that when you look at what a community organizer [Obama] is turning out to be, it does seem to be like a low-level socialist agitator.

“When you look at the economic situation that we have, to have a gentleman in the White House that really has never run any type of business or organization — I myself, as a company commander, as a battalion executive officer, and as a battalion commander — have many times had to balance budgets, and take care of units, and operate a budget,” West continued.

“So I think it does come back to experience,” he said. “And when I talk about the chickens coming home to roost — when we continue to play this election cycle ‘American Idol’ in the United States of America — this is what we end up with, with someone that really is not in tune with the American people.”

Congressman Allen West Bio

Allen B. West (born February 7, 1961) is U.S. Representative-elect for Florida's 22nd congressional district. He is a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel elected to represent Florida's 22nd district in Congress in the United States House of Representatives elections, held on November 2, 2010. Lieutenant Colonel Allen West (US Army, Retired) was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and is third of four generations of military servicemen in his family. His parents instilled in him a very basic principle, love of God and country.

In 2004, when it was time to retire from more than twenty years of service in the US Army, he brought his wife and two young daughters to Broward County, Florida, where he taught high school for one year. He then returned to Afghanistan as an advisor to the Afghan army, an assignment he finished in November 2007.

Allen West received his Bachelors degree from University of Tennessee and Masters degree from Kansas State University, both in political science. He also holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences from the US Army Command and General Staff Officer College in political theory and military operations.

"Education is the great equalizer," he says. "With a good education, any child in America can live his dream."

Allen West knows that for our children to live their dreams, they need to be safe. He has served in several combat zones: in Operation Desert Storm, in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was battalion commander for the Army's 4th Infantry Division, and in Afghanistan, where he trained Afghan officers to take on the responsibility of securing their own country.

In his Army career, Col. West has been honored many times, including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. He received his valor award as a Captain in Desert Shield/Storm, was the US Army ROTC Instructor of the Year in 1993, and was a Distinguished HonorGraduate III Corps Assault School.

He proudly wears the Army Master parachutist badge, Air Assault badge, Navy/Marine Corps parachutist insignia, Italian parachutist wings, and German proficiency badge (Bronze award). Allen is an avid distance runner, a PADI Master certified SCUBA diver, motorcyclist, and attends Community Christian Church in Tamarac, Florida.

Excellence is a West family tradition. His wife, Angela, holds an MBA and PhD. and works as a financial planner. His oldest daughter, Aubrey, attends Archbishop McCarthy HS and his youngest daughter, Austen, attends Parkway Christian School.

While serving in Taji, Iraq, on August 20, 2003, as commander of the 2d Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel West was in charge of an interrogation of a civilian Iraqi police officer who was suspected of having pertinent information regarding attacks on American soldiers in the area. Interrogators had learned that the detainee had information about a planned ambush.

When the interrogators were unable to extract the needed important information for some time, LTC West was asked to come try to obtain the important information. As the detainee continued to hold back the information, LTC West fired his pistol past the detainee's head into a clearing barrel, frightening (but not physically harming) the detainee and getting him to finally give the information. At least one man was apprehended as a result of the information obtained through the detainee's interrogation.

Deadly accurate!! I sure wished I'd live in this guy's district in Florida, because he definitely would have had my vote. But, at least I got to cast my ballot to get that goofball, Alan Grayson, out.

Congressman Allen West Response to President Barack Obama's Speech - May 19,2011
Congressman Allen West - Florida District 22 ^ | May 19, 2011 | SeekTheTruth

Congressman Allen West Response to President Barack Obama's Call for a Two State Solution in Israel -May 19

"Today's endorsement by President Barack Obama of the creation of a Hamas-led Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, signals the most egregious foreign policy decision his administration has made to date, and could be the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state.

From the moment the modern day state of Israel declared statehood in 1948, to the end of the 1967 Six Day War, Jews were forbidden access to their holiest site, the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City, controlled by Jordan's Arab army.

The pre-1967 borders endorsed by President Obama would deny millions of the world's Jews access to their holiest site and force Israel to return the strategically important Golan Heights to Syria, a known state-sponsor of terrorism.

Resorting to the pre-1967 borders would mean a full withdrawal by the Israelis from the West Bank and the Jewish neighborhoods of East Jerusalem. Make no mistake, there has always been a Nation of Israel and Jerusalem has been and must always be recognized as its rightful capital.

In short, the Hamas-run Palestinian state envisioned by President Obama would be devastating to Israel and the world's 13.3 million Jews. It would be a Pavlovian style reward to a declared Islamic terrorist organization, and an unacceptable policy initiative.

America should never negotiate with the Palestinian Authority- which has aligned itself with Hamas. Palestine is a region, not a people or a modern state. Based upon Roman Emperor Hadrian's declaration in 73 AD, the original Palestinian people are the Jewish people.

It's time for the American people to stand by our strongest ally, the Jewish State of Israel, and reject this foreign policy blunder of epic proportions.

While the winds of democracy may blow strong in the Middle East, history has demonstrated that gaps in leadership can lead to despotic regimes. I have questions for President Obama: 'Who will now lead in Egypt?' and 'Why should American taxpayers provide foreign aid to a nation where the next chapter in their history may be the emergence of another radical Islamic state?'

President Obama has not stood for Israel or the Jewish people and has made it clear where the United States will stand when Palestine attempts to gain recognition of statehood by the United Nations. The President should focus on the real obstacle to security- the Palestinian leadership and its ultimate goal to eliminate Israel and the Jewish people."
