Forrest Griffin vs. Shogun Rua Rematch Official for UFC: Rio
« on: April 15, 2011, 12:11:07 PM »
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua originally came to the UFC in 2007 as the #1 light heavyweight in the world. He'd been Pride's rising star in the division since 2005 when he won their Middleweight (205lbs) Tournament by beating Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Alistair Overeem and Ricardo Arona. No one expected The Ultimate Fighter winner Forrest Griffin to have much of a chance against Shogun, but Forrest shocked the world by finishing Rua at UFC 76 and then going on to win the UFC title. Since then their individual fortunes have risen and fallen with both winning and quickly losing the championship belt. Now they meet again according to MMA Fighting:

Good. Rua is going to decapitate Forrest-- a nice tune up fight before he fights Lyoto again.

Personally I would have liked a Rampage Forrest rematch first, but maybe that will come next anyway.

Yeah, Shogun is probably the most vicious ground-and-pound guy in all MMA. That second fight between him and Machida was the most brutal fight I've ever seen in MMA - except for that fight between Wandy and Rampage when Wandy kneed Rampage into a coma lol. I actually thought Machida was dead when the judge stopped the fight. Forrest Grififth is a can and he could barely win against an injured Shogun. The only good fighter to come out of TUF is Jones. That show blows.

Yes, he had injuries to his knees and also to his lower back. He was not even fighting at 50%.

Yeah, and didn't that "can" beat Rua before?  If a "can" beats another fighter, is the beaten fighter now a "can"?  Just wondering.

He beat Rampage when Rampage was on one leg, he beat Rua when Rua was on one leg and other than that he has beaten nobody.

A down and out Rich Franklin doesn't count as a serious victory.

I'm so sick of hearing about injuries etc.  A win is a fucking win.  No excuses.  If you have an injury, don't fight.

Honestly, the only time Rua has looked good in his last several fights was when he KO'd Machida.  He had an embarrassing fight with Coleman that will forever tarnish his name.

I think Forrest will dominate this time.  Jones dismantled what was left of that PRIDE has-been.

Rua's fight with Coleman was beyond pathetic....

do you honestly think the Rua that fought Coleman could have beaten Machida (basically twice) and Lidell ?
