How much more do you think the American people will take?
« on: May 15, 2011, 04:10:23 PM »
The last few years have really shown how bad it is in Washington; the too big to fail bailouts, the total lack of punishment and accountability on the part of politicians and the fact the Wall Street Fat Cats are back at it again, having got off scott free. Our government is spending the country into oblivion in wasteful foreign wars, inefficient governmental programmes at home and doesn't even have the money spend itself, relying on the Fed's magic printing press and our ever generous creditors, the Chinese. My question is simple: how bad will it need to get before things REALLY change and we start repairing all the damage to the country that has been done; does there need to be a total collapse until people wake up and realise that they need to be the ones start changing things, that, unless they do Goldman-Sachs and company  will continue looting and bureaucrats will continue spending...it will be business as usual until there is no business.

How bad does it have to get before the American people wake up?
I hate the State.

Total and complete meltdown.
People are complacent nowadays..
It will take something so big and so catastrophic that it threatens EVERYONES way of life to happen to galvanize people to action.
Otherwise, theyll just sit and say "not my problem" until its too late.

 Agree.

People nowadays are more interested in being comfortable and making personal gains. They aren't interested in the greater good.

The people who have lots of money and are benefitting from this system want to maintain the status quo.

Also. Most people in the general public simply don't know and care about politics and they still think that what they see on TV news is the real story.

Lots of people are brainwashed. Lots of people are ignorant. And lots of people are benefitting from this corrupt system and watnt to keep it going. Those are the 3 main problems I see.

Especially in the USA. There's lots of people living well in big houses with lots of cool toys and all the food and clean water they want. So they don't want to rock the boat.

yeah. Its bad.
If we dont wake up and demand the gov do something to help reign in our debt, were gonna have the complete meltdown.... And the crazy thing is that the people will still be oblivious to it until either they cant afford to drive their kids to soccer practice or bread is $20 a loaf.
Or the gov straight up takes over.
They really have the wool pulled over the majority of peoples eyes... Although I get the feeling that the internet is helping change a lot of that.

The last few years have really shown how bad it is in Washington;

the too big to fail bailouts,

most the money has been paid back with interest, before it was due. effect on defecit= none.. actually probably lessened it since the bailouts helped keep the economy running and thus kept tax revenues up

the total lack of punishment and accountability on the part of politicians and

are you kidding? in what way?  i see a lack of accountability in terms of providing evidence and logic for policies advocated, but not in terms of allowing fraud and corruption. the free press is all over these guys.

the fact the Wall Street Fat Cats are back at it again, having got off scott free

in what way??   there have been some changes to the way things get done. and more to come, if obama gets his way

. Our government is spending the country into oblivion in wasteful foreign wars,

we can debate about the necessity of the iraq and afghanistan wars. but thats off topic. im willing to give you the run down if you want tho  :) the fact is that yes we have spent trillions on these wars, but so what. tell me why this matters.  :)

inefficient governmental programmes at home and

true, healthcare and education need huge overhauls...    but not less money, just reorganization and a changed game plan.

doesn't even have the money spend itself, relying on the Fed's magic printing press and our ever generous creditors, the Chinese.

fuck the chinese! hahah. corrupt ass government leeching off its people and polluting the fuckin hell out of the environment all the while encroaching on personal freedoms. well pay em back when ur good and ready.

Almost 2% of the people in prison.

 Another 4% homeless.

 Another 20-30% living in poverty.

Insane inequalities and corruption. A government that cares only about it's own power and control.

 No problemo right?

It will definitely take something big to wake people up.

Look at all of the morons who voted for Obama.

Sustained $5+ gas could really fire people up, but the prices dropped a bit in the last few weeks.

Dude. The USA has a LOT of serious problems and abject poverty.

Not everyone in the USA is doing well. ABout half of the people in the USA are struggling hard and going through hell. Major inequality.

Every city in the USA has an underbelly of poor and desperate people. And there is a lot of gnarly violence in the US.

Isnt that the way it is in a lot of places though?
IMHO a LOT of the inequality has to do with a lack of motivation/willingness to do what it takes to change things.
No other country in the world has the same opportunities for advancement like the US.
This is the one place in the world where if someone is unhappy about their situation, they literally have NO ONE to blame but themselves for not doing something to change that.
You cant make everything 100% fair. And a huge portion of those people in the US that live in poverty do so because they CHOOSE to not make something better for themselves.

I've met lots and lots and lots of people who are very smart and hard working, but they are poor for various reasons.

Being hard working and smart doesn't always pay off. Especially if you're born into a really poor family.

Do you have any idea what it's like to grow up in a really poor family and have to earn every dime for yourself from the time you're a teenager? I doubt it.
