1. What did you measure the vert with, vertec? pad? Was it accurately measured? Are you sure it wasn't just a change in jump mechanics or technique? For example, I can bring someone's time down in a 40 from 4.8 to a 4.75 or less in a matter of a :30min. Quads are not the "jumping" muscles so to speak.
2. As with the cardiac patients, you just followed what the doc had prescribed? In other words, he didn't have a doctors release to exercise unless it was prescribed by him or did he just give guidelines? Did you speak or consult with the doctor about what you can or cannot do. If the doc gives you a written release for this client to train, that means he is released TO YOU.
In answer to your questions:
1st question: The vert was measured by using a vertc, and I'm pretty sure that it was due to his training and not an increase in jumping "technique". And your right about quads not being the "jumping" muscles, the "jumping" muscles are the "extensors" namely the ass and hams. Hip extension is where jumping power and ability comes from, not knee extension, or ankle extension.
2nd question: Yes I followed the docs guilelines, which were basically to gradually get his heart rate elevated to within a certain perscribed range and then to keep it elevated at that range for the prescribed amount of minutes.
