The first thing I heard about Poland was as a kid in the 70's...

I grew up around a lot of Poles and worked in Corrections with them.  I've yet to meet a really small one yet.  All around good fellows, though they fuckin' love to drink and will fight.

While Poland's history was rather moribund through much of the 20th century, King John III Sobieski kicked some serious ass in the late 1600s.  He, along with Austrian and German troops, kicked the shit out of some invading Turks at the Battle of Vienna, deeming him "the savior of European Christiandon."

I had some alcoholic Polish patients in the clinic I just to work. At visiting hours the whole families came by, with sweets and meat and all kinds of disgusting food. The women all looked the same: blocky, harsh, ugly, like the men. It was unbelievable how much these Polish dudes could drink, and I've seen a lot of heavy drinkers.
This particular guy was gone one day, and it turned out he jumped before a train. He was literally smashed into a 1000 pieces, couldn't be identified by his family or by normal procedures. Shocking, of course, he was not a bad guy and he really had problems...weird people.

Old myth, get your facts straight. They were not charging but trying to flee to avoid getting trapped.

A lot of people here need to update their historical knowledge.

Polish culture - machismo and bravado are very strong.  Images of hyper masculinity and femininity are very strong with them; many dudes are jacked wearing skin tight shirts; the women always in skin tight clothes (which isn't bad, cuz a lot are good looking).

Very sexual species, although they tend to keep to themselves.

LOL you ever been to Poland? Couldn't be further from truth.

We used to be a nation of tough bastards. True Poles from father to son are tough bastards indeed. Few things you have to know about Poland is that:

 - Our 303 squadron saved British asses during Battle of Britain
 - We are one of two nations to ever succesfuly conquer Russia (another tough bastards)
 - As someone else mentioned arleady we saved few asses in XVII century

Unfortunatelly after GB and USA betrayed us after WWII they left us for commies which totally destroyed our nation. Nowadays we are sad nation which celebrates defeats but never victories.

From what I have seen Poles work very hard but many are alcoholics. Work and drink.

Polish intellectuals were the first to break the German Enigma ciphers.

Sorry about the post World War II chess game that went on between the soviets and the west...

they weren't so tough back in September 1939 when we raped their army pretty much in a few days.
Ya you really know your history ::)
The Poles had there forces concentrated on eastern borders anticipating a Russian invasion which occured 2 weeks after, which is why Hitler took advantage of the element of surprise from there rear end and the poles held there own being sandwiched against 2 of the worlds greatest super powers. ya let's just leave that part out right stark :-X
