Ditto. The mid 80s to early 90s in bodybuilding was the same as the situation now - a few good pros here and there, but the field in general not as impressive as the guys from Arnold's era or from Dorian's time. Which is why I think it will get better again in a few years, since the trend seems to be cyclical like most things.

... Levrone looks pretty sick in fotos but having met him a few times in person ... he is not an imposing figure at all. not nearly as wide as he looks in fotos either. great physique, but not a monster. pretty short. 5'7"-5'8" at best.

Obviously, anyone huge and ripped (without the bloat) is impressive.

Sure, anyone can diet ... but only a select few can look truly impressive and imposing when dieted down. That's what I'm saying. If you're a smaller guy, it's very hard to stand next to bigger guys. Only a select few like Palumbo, Gaspari, Labrada, etc. could be so small and look so good.
